SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to support the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) program.

AFAMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations. As the lead agent for M&S within the USAF, AFAMS gathers requirements, seeks out potential solutions, and integrates legacy and emerging M&S solutions across the USAF and the DoD. The USAF has an M&S initiative that focuses on providing simulation and synthetic training as the critical capability to augment live training, act as an enabler for critical decision-making, and enhance human performance. In the current resource constrained environment, demand for M&S rises with the continuously evolving need for operational readiness and mission preparedness across the USAF, DoD, and with coalition partners. AFAMS focuses on providing innovative M&S services as the key to meeting this demand.

The role of this position is to support the Warrior Preparation Center (WPC) in Einsiedlerhof AS, Germany. The Computer Operations Engineer will:

  • Contractor will support all permanent party and exercise core services or comparable technology with Windows software platforms in accordance with WPC projects, exercise plans, and designs.
  • The contractor will create standard operating procedures, maintenance checklists, monitor all performance and functionality of classified and unclassified computers. The contractor shall assist with the following:
    • Support Microsoft-based operating systems, as well as the integration of specialized applications for permanent party, local exercise, and remote exercise use.
    • Perform visual inspections of IT related equipment, basic troubleshooting techniques, computer maintenance, and repair.
    • Understand and perform maintenance on hardware inside a workstation, software on a workstation, and installation of both.
    • Configure Windows operating systems for permanent party and exercise setups.
    • Understand and implement the use of Microsoft Management Console (MMC), Windows Device Manager, Windows Remote Desktop, Event Viewer, and Disk Management.
    • Provide guidance on NetIQ Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) user, computer, and group creation, including naming conventions and long-term disposition.
    • Planning and delivery of user support services, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, user assistance, and/or training, in response to user IT requirements.
    • Understand and perform printer maintenance to include, adding to print server, mapping to user computers, and troubleshooting problems.
    • Understand and perform basic commands for Command Line Interface (CLI) (e.g. ARP, Netstat, Ping, Ipconfig, and Tracert).
    • Understand and perform System Recovery options to include: System Backup Methods, Restoration of user data, and System Recovery.
    • Implement and oversee email account management for all permanent party users.
    • Understand how to apply and the differences between distribution groups, security groups, and organizational boxes.
    • Understand implementation and configuration of VPN software and technologies.

Qualifications

The following skills are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management or related discipline plus 1 year recent specialized experience; or Associates Degree in computer science, information management or related discipline plus 3 years recent specialized experience, or Major Information Technology (IT) Certification plus 3 years recent specialized experience, or 7 years recent specialized experience. 
  • Information Assurance (IA) Technical Level II certification.
  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

A Secret (fully adjudicated and eligible for NATO) secuity clearance is required for this position.
