Job Description


SAIC is seeking qualified candidates to support the US Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation (AFAMS) program.

AFAMS is the premier agency responsible for implementation, integration, and development of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and training and analysis standards that support the US Air Force (USAF), Department of Defense (DoD), and mission partners requiring these capabilities to support the Warfighter in full-spectrum operations. As the lead agent for M&S within the USAF, AFAMS gathers requirements, seeks out potential solutions, and integrates legacy and emerging M&S solutions across the USAF and the DoD. The USAF has an M&S initiative that focuses on providing simulation and synthetic training as the critical capability to augment live training, act as an enabler for critical decision-making, and enhance human performance. In the current resource constrained environment, demand for M&S rises with the continuously evolving need for operational readiness and mission preparedness across the USAF, DoD, and with coalition partners. AFAMS focuses on providing innovative M&S services as the key to meeting this demand.

The role of this position is to support the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in Mesa, AZ. The Visual Database Developer will a SME for ANG visual database development to support simulator programs. Activities include:

  • Developing new visual databases
  • Evaluating proposed database changes from the field, and presenting to NGB for review and implementation
  • Debugging existing government provided databases
  • Integrating and validating database changes
  • Supporting design reviews and testing and installing database application software
  • Advising NGB/A5 and NGB/A3 on the impact of industry developments on ANG programs
  • Coordinate with the ANG Distributed Training Operations Center (DTOC) to support DMO exercises
  • Coordinate with other major visual database development efforts and repositories to exchange databases and avoid duplication of development efforts
  • Assisting NGB with studies of ongoing aircrew training to evaluate future development efforts


The following skills are required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a visual database developer, in either industry or government, on simulator programs
  • Familiarization with the MetaVR Inc. Virtual Reality Scene Generator software, Open Flight, and other standard industry application tool kits
  • Familiarization with ANG/USAF simulator and/or training device programs
  • Familiarization with MS and Adobe products and tools
  • BS in relevant field
  • Bachelors and six (6) years or more of related experience; Masters and four (4) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold DoD issued Secret security clearance.
