Description

The successful candidate will be a service-oriented, organized, self-starting individual capable of working both independently and in a team environment. They will work as part of a team in a challenging, rapidly changing, multi-tasking environment, under general direction of senior staff. They will provide Linux system administration and technical support in a heterogeneous environment consisting of various implementations of Linux, Windows, and Macintosh workstations, servers, peripherals, applications, compilers, utilities, and network components, in both classified and unclassified environments. This will include the assembly, installation, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computers, computer components, and computer networks to ensure their functionality and efficiency. Additional responsibilities for this position include: general technical assistance to the user community; providing technical input and hardware recommendations for customers when planning their computing needs; and related documentation.


Qualifications

•Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related field and 5 years or more experience; OR 9 years or more of related experience in lieu of degree; OR Master's degree 3 years or more experience
•3-5 years of experience as a Linux Sys Admin doing activities such as installation, system integration, image development, patching, upgrades, complex problem resolution preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu
•Exceptional technical and troubleshooting skills with computer hardware, operating systems, and productivity software
•Experience analyzing and developing systems in the context of changing technologies
•Strong interpersonal and documentation skills and the ability to work well individually and in a team environment
•Ability to multitask and meet deadlines on a variety of activities
•The ability to create dynamic solutions in undocumented or unforeseen situations
•Willingness to learn and continually upgrade skills
•Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q" clearance

 

Desired Skills:

•Demonstrated technical expertise in the following technologies: SSL; Kerberos; LDAP, DNS, NFS, Samba, Subversion, Git, RAID, Ansible
•Experience managing Windows servers and workstations
•Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare)
•Applied knowledge of computer security concepts and practices
•Experience scripting for administrative tasks (Shell, Python, Perl, etc)
•Bachelor's degree in a computer related field
•Active DOE L (DOD Secret) or Q (DOD Top Secret) clearance
