SAIC is seeking a Principal DevSecOps Engineer to join our Air Force team outside Scott AFB, IL, supporting the Air Mobility Command’s movement of cargo and passengers across the globe. Our platform and software facilitates moving US forces to deter or defend against global threats, and delivery of lifesaving cargo and passengers during humanitarian crises, global emergencies and everyday operations.   

The Air Force is beginning to move to a new, state-of-the-art suite of enterprise level applications built using the latest containerized and server-less approaches on top of a cutting edge Kubernetes-based platform and data-as-a-service foundation. This is a fundamental shift in the way the Department of Defense develops software capabilities, utilizing the most recent and innovative industry best practices while providing a “startup-like” environment to enable innovative and rapid capability delivery … and we want to hire an experienced DevSecOps Engineer to steer our customer and our own team to “best DevOps practices.”

As the lead DevSecOps engineer, you’ll steer several 5-to-7-person agile/scrum teams (developers, product owner, and scrummaster) and their platform/cyber support team in their maturing DevSecOps environment to build, customize and integrate new software apps supporting the Air Force.  You’ll be our DevSecOps lead, evolving both cloud and on-prem infrastructure, including the latest technologies in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, cybersecurity, frequent deployments, and more.  The job will also include updating existing systems and integrating improvements to work on the user interfaces already in operation. Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver DevSecOps pipeline solutions and proof of concepts for Continuous Integration/Configuration, Continuous Development, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Testing, Continuous Security and Continuous Monitoring
  • Work hands-on with our development and systems administration teams to integrate solutions and products for our Air Force customer
  • Drive solutions that meet the customers' technical, financial and business requirements, and supporting a legacy system in the process of being modernized to be hosted in the cloud utilizing DevSecOps processes
  • Meet with managers and representatives of Department of Defense/Air Force teammates to discuss platform and software requirements and features; brainstorm methods of solving existing problems
  • Keep up to date on the newest technological innovations in the field and be ready to apply relevant innovations to our software systems


Typical Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline, with 9 or more years related experience (and at least 3 years as a DevOps Engineer with related technologies/experience); other degrees and certifications/total experience considered in lieu of degree requirements
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance; current clearance preferred
  • Security + certification
  • Experience with installing, configuring and managing:
    • Linux and Windows operating systems
    • Container/orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes
    • Version control systems like git & git workflows
    • Build and deployment tools like Jenkins
    • Build and package managers like Gradle and Artifactory
    • Scripting languages such as Python, BASH, Perl, Shell
    • Configuration management systems like Ansible, Chef, Puppet
    • Testing tools/frameworks like Junit, Selenium, Cucumber
    • Code analysis tools like SonarQube
    • Log analytics tools like Splunk
    • Tools enabling automated testing and integration, and with AWS specifically in regard to key services e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, KMS, CloudFormation, IAM

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for full stack software development life cycle; including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, monitoring and operations
  • Ability to collaboratively lead senior software engineers in engineering & problem-solving
  • Experience in communication/interpersonal skills with end users, leaders, and functional and technical teammates to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy
  • Applicable industry technical/leadership certifications: DevOps, AWS/cloud practitioner certs or others
  • Knowledge of DoD/Defense Transportation System or USAF Air Mobility Command operations and enterprise technologies like GDSS, CAMPS, MEIS, GATES, etc.
