Job Description


Position Summary

SAIC is seeking a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Engineer to join our team supporting a major state & local government customer. The CMDB Engineer is responsible for defining and managing the operational activities of the Change Management Process, using the ServiceNow incident management platform. The ideal candidate must also serve as a backup to all position responsibilities using legacy technology and implement capabilities throughout the enterprise for a large infrastructure support program. Essential duties of this position include:

  • Drive execution of creation, maturity and maintenance of the CMDB
  • Organization and execution of CMDB and Asset Management tools. ServiceNow experience, preferred.
  • Drive execution of asset and configuration item identification, baseline definition, relationship mapping, CMDB administration and IT acquisition processes
  • Providing hardware and software asset and configuration management
  • Communicate effectively by using dashboards, power points, and reports.
  • Shepherd customization of CMDB consoles and dashboards
  • Execute a holistic view across the Service Management disciplines
  • Lead SACM process and CMDB updates in support of supplier invoicing and customer charge back

This position is involved in ensuring integration with the other Service Management processes such as Incident, Problem, Event Management and all areas of the ITIL framework. The CMDB Engineer stays abreast of new features and functionality, playing a key role in driving continual service improvement. You will have the opportunity to solve complex problems, design user-friendly interfaces, and optimize processes through automation. This position offers the chance to improve the speed, efficiency, and reporting capability of IT services. The CMDB Engineer will also play a key role in representing current and future capabilities of supporting ITSM tools, and contributing to long-term strategy as well as tactical activities leading to the continual improvement of the environment to meet objectives. 


Background / Experience
  • At least 2 - 3 years of experience in the ITIL driven IT management environment, preferably in a CMDB role
  • Enact system audit practices and conduct audits to ensure data integrity.
  • Reconcile the CMDB data when exceptions are noted between CMDB, discovery information, and other authoritative production data repositories.
  • Support design, development, and implementation of automated processes for gathering, populating, and maintaining CMDB data.
  • Ability to develop SQL queries and reports for management on KPIs to improve the process effectiveness, efficiency, and data accuracy.
  • Works closely with customers, Systems Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to establish business requirements for the CMDB.
  • Produce and execute a plan for implementing the Configuration Management processes using ServiceNow
  • Recommend robust configuration management procedures and standards for using CMDB.
  • Ensure ITSM and CMDB alignment with ITIL v3 framework.
  • Act as a key stakeholder supporting key CMDB tasks:
  • Communicate CMDB activities to enhance general awareness of processes and standards.
  • Liaise and train internal partners whenever necessary.
  • Defines and develops business processes, policies, roles and responsibilities, and performance metrics;
  • Conducts analysis of business processes: current state analysis, gap analysis, benchmarking, best practices identification, organizational assessment, and other related tasks.
  • Plans and implements process improvements, including: future state design
  • Interfaces with all service stakeholders including customer, systems, and technology.
  • Ensures compliance with Change Management policies and agency guidelines.
  • Provides expertise and guidance in interpreting policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, and agency guidelines to assure compliance.
  • Works directly with operating entities to provide process analyses oversight on a continuing basis to enforce requirements and meet guidelines.
  • May coordinate with business and technology teams, ascertaining system requirements, such as program functions, output requirements, input data acquisition, and system techniques and controls.

  • Candidate should be a motivated, self-starter with the ability to accomplish tasks under pressure with limited supervision.
  • Candidate must be a team player.
  • Candidate must have flexibility to accommodate time-sensitive and mission-critical work.
  • At least 1 year of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) applications and common office software applications.
  • The successful candidate will have exceptional oral and written communication abilities

Security Clearance Requirement

- US Citizen who must be able to pass a Commonwealth of Virginia background check.


Skills/ Education / Certifications / Other

- Bachelor’s degree and 9 years or more experience, Masters and 7 years or more experience. 
- Degree requirement waived in lieu of significant recent and relevant work experience: minimum of four (4) years’ active duty military or minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience.

-ITIL Foundation Certification or higher, preferred.

-Previous experience with Bill of IT chargeback support, preferred.

- MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook Calendar, Project, Internet Explorer, and Access), and Adobe Reader, MS Sharepoint
