Job Description: Researches and drafts technical and regulatory documents, and reviews documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with appropriate requirements. Available to consult on technical, legal, and regulatory aviation issues related to specific tasks. Knowledgeable in a variety of aviation areas, including the regulatory process, conducting air carrier aircraft records reviews, corporate aviation evaluations, and quality system evaluations. Responsibilities include managing projects, monitoring project costs and schedules, conducting Internet research, and coordinating on issues with Government and industry personnel. Utilizes and applies knowledge of web information technology and associated tools such as micro media flash, adobe, SharePoint, etc. to provide an information format for Government and industry personnel and the general public.

 

Duties: Develop and prepare detailed responses to complex inquiries.  Research and decipher regulatory rules and make recommendations on methods, procedures, and alternative methods, apply problem solving and satisfy requirements and improve current work processes. Apply knowledge of aviation regulations, operations and the National Airspace System (NAS). Provide expertise in data analysis, data management, document writing, and presentation development.  Adapt to rapidly changing priorities and apply aviation expertise and technical knowledge to support a wide range of AUS program initiatives. Strong technical management and project management skills - UAS experience preferable, familiar with FAA regulations, most notably 49USC part 91 and part 107 as they relate to UAS.  

Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • Knowledge about aviation (pilot, ATC, drones, regulations, airline, airplanes, etc.)
  • Patience and positivity when dealing with frustrated customers.
  • Ability to communicate well in verbal and written form.
  • Exercise initiative in researching answers and coordinating responses.
  • Recommend process improvements and continually improve one’s knowledge of drone operations and regulations.
  • Adaptability when required to take on additional tasks as required (e.g., light data analysis, documentation writing, giving presentations).
  • Ability to learn quickly, especially technical and regulatory information.
  •  Troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  •  Ability to work under pressure.
  •  Good teamwork attitude.
  •  Able to work an 8:00-4:00 schedule M-F.
 

Job Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of direct aviation experience concerning flight operations and, as appropriate, experience as a pilot with a commercial or airline transport pilot rating. Bachelor’s Degree may be waived with 15 years of experience developing, evaluating or managing aviation operational or training programs, or developing, implementing and managing governmental aviation safety regulatory and oversight programs, or a combination of both.

 

US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance 


Additional Notes: Job location is 470 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, DC 20024.

Required clearance is an SF-85P completed on site by the FAA.
