Position Summary

SAIC is seeking a Service Asset & Configuration Manager (SACM) Team Lead to join our team supporting a major state & local government customer. The SACM Team Lead is responsible for defining and managing the operational activities of the SACM process. The ideal candidate must also serve as a backup to all position responsibilities using legacy technology and implement capabilities throughout the enterprise for a large infrastructure support program. Essential duties of this position include:

  • Drive continual service improvement and execution of configuration management
  • Expert knowledge of the CMDB and ITSM platform
  • Communicate effectively by using dashboards, power points, reports.
  • Shepherd customization of the platform and CMDB
  • Execute a holistic view across the Service Management disciplines

The SACM Team Lead stays abreast of new features and functionality, playing a key role in driving continual service improvement. You will have the opportunity to solve complex problems, design user-friendly interfaces, and optimize processes through automation. This position offers the chance to improve the speed, efficiency, and reporting capability of IT services. The SACM Team Lead will also play a key role in representing current and future capabilities of supporting ITSM tools, and contributing to long-term strategy as well as tactical activities leading to the continual improvement of the environment to meet objectives. 


Background / Experience
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator, capable of working independently and in small groups
  • Ability to lead / assist with formulation and definition of solution scope and objectives while working with a team of reporting developers / analysts on functional requirements and specifications.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for automation, orchestration and development of service catalog requirements
  • Defines the structure of the configuration management system, including CI types, naming conventions, attributes and relationships.
  • Creates, implements, and communicates configuration management plans, processes, and standards.
  • Facilitates the negotiation of the scope of the configuration management process in collaboration with CMDB governing structures, process owners, and IT business stakeholders.
  • Works with other process owners to ensure an integrated approach to the design, and coordination of interfaces between configuration management and other service management processes. (Change, Release, Incident, and Knowledge).
  • Identifies which CIs need to be managed and controlled from the basis of Asset, Configuration Management, and Inventory. Proposes and agrees to the CI types and level of detail at which CIs are to be identified.
  • Evaluates systems that discover and interface with configuration management database.
  • Plans and executes population of the configuration management database (manual and automated); manages CMDB, central libraries, tools, common codes and data; ensures regular housekeeping of the CMDB.
  • Ensures changes to the configuration management processes are properly approved and communicated.
  • Works collaboratively across ITS to implement CMDB assets and leads continual service improvement.
  • Produces and distributes management reports for configuration management.
  • Defines certification and audit processes and engages the CI class owners on regular certification efforts.
  • On-boards new CI Owners and manages training materials and quick guides.
  • Reviews the Configuration Management process on a regular basis for efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Strong ability to work in fast-paced environments
  • With limited direction, supports the implementation of new service catalog systems into production.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a small team 
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow
Education / Certifications / Other
  • Bachelors and fourteen (14) years or more of related experience; Masters and twelve (12) years or more of related experience; PhD or JD and nine (9) years or more of related experience.
  • IAITAM Certification preferred (CITAM, CHAMP, CSAM, etc.)
  • ITIL certification preferred (Foundation or above)
  • Strong skills with: MS Office products and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Experience with the following:
    • ServiceNow Asset and Configuration Management tool
    • IT Financial Management
    • Asset Management platform integration
    • Business Service Mapping
    • Structured Query Language (SQL)
