Job Description


SAIC is seeking Sr. Comms Technician in California, MD to provide specialized engineering, analysis and operations support to a variety of Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers.  We support a wide variety of Communications equipment for their Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) Ground Support Systems.


Job Duties:

  • Work in a team environment to design, deliver and provide life cycle support to a wide variety of systems. 

  • Performs low level troubleshooting, repair and maintenance on various types of electronic equipment such as; VHF, HF, UHF and SATCOM electronic Communications equipment; networked computer systems, and Command and Control equipment.

  • Installs cabling, hardware, equipment mounts and racks.

  • Tactical Data Link (Link-11, JREAP, Link-16) with the following platform assigned equipment:  JRE and MIDS-LVT-1 series

  • UHF Satellite Communication (SATCOM), UHF/VHF Line of Sight (LOS), and HF communications

  • Non-Type 1 commercial encryption devices, as well as Type 1 encryption devices and use of Communications Security (COMSEC) keying materials, devices and documentation

  • Crypto Key Management, key loaders, and EKMS key transfer practices

  • Support the development of detailed design drawings of hardware, layout, and infrastructure of designed systems to include elevation design drawings, cable tray layout drawings, antenna layout drawings, and power circuit diagrams

  • Provide engineering support including developing system engineering plans (SEP), detailed installation plans, installation data packages (IDP), installation drawing packages, SOVT, PITCO and user documents

  • Support the integration of system hardware (Radios, Power Supplies, Crypto, Antenna Cabling and Antennas) and software components to ensure total operational and functional compatibility with interfacing/interacting systems, subsystems, equipment, and computer programs

  • Provide support during testing, to include a complete end-to-end test of the systems

  • Support installation of systems including hardware and software installation and system acceptance testing

  • Radio hardware builds (RF Connectors, Interconnection wiring, etc.)

  • Pull and dress copper and fiber optic cabling (vertical/horizontal)

  • Equipment rack installation and hardware/antenna mounting

  • Terminating, splicing, testing and troubleshooting copper and fiber cable


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience. Or equivalent experience for education
  • Ability to obtain an Active DOD Secret clearance. US Citizenship
  • 4 years of hands-on experience with task specific responsibilities mentioned above
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to cling, squat, bend and sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Valid driver’s license and passport
  • Technical training in relevant technical fields
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time CONUS/OCONUS
  • Must have experience integrating, testing and installing ashore platforms as defined below:
    • High Frequency (HF) Radios and Antennas
    • Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radios and Antennas
    • Tactical Data Links including Link-11, Link-16, and Tactical Common Data Link (TCDL)
    • Type 1 encryption devices
    • Joint Range Extension (JRE)
    • Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) / Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS)
    • Audio / Digital Patch Panel experience
    • Analog Switching System

Desired Experience

  • Thales and Rhohde & Swartz experience preferred
  • Harris and Rockwell Collins experience preferred
  • Cornet Experience preferred
  • Video Teleconference (VTC) Systems Preferred
  • Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Preferred
  • Prior experience working in a TacMobile MTOC or TOC highly desirable
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance
