Job Description


SAIC is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to support NASA Langley Research Center’s Human Research Program (HRP), specifically the Space Radiation (SR) Modeling and Simulation Project.  NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) is located in Hampton, VA.  SAIC is the prime contractor on the Langley IT Enhanced Services (LITES) II contract at NASA LaRC supporting this project. 


Job Description:

Primary responsibilities include developing and improving techniques for applying how animal research results are translated to humans, using biological modeling to define pathways between animals and humans leading to understanding, linking existing knowledge to Space Radiation research, applying modeling and simulation techniques to discover/uncover previously unknown linkages like are the pathways for low dose rate tumors different from high dose rate tumors.

  • Develop functionality in an agile fashion, with regular releases
  • Prototype new technologies and approaches to assess alternatives
  • Work as part of an agile team, delivering new functionality on a regular cadence
  • Work in a collaborative and fast-paced fun team environment with effective communication and assisting peers. Be an asset and contributor to the team
  • Provide technical and analytical solutions to evaluate the merits and challenges of a product idea
  • Perform high complexity integration testing, distributed development and validate integration

Security Clearance Requirement: NACI


Citizenship:  US Citizenship required


Required Education & Experience:

  • B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, or Information Systems or relevant field
  • Proven understanding of Data Science and Analytics concepts and methodologies
  • Proven skillsets in numerical analysis
  • Experience with the following Languages: Python and R. Knowledge of FORTRAN or C++ would be useful, but not required
  • Knowledge, education, or experience working in or around the medical community (Omics)
  • Familiar with modelling & simulation for highlytechnical R&D problems
  • Understanding of programming concepts and application development. Indepth understanding of one or more computational technical areas such as advanced modeling and simulation
  • Domain knowledge in modeling and simulation
  • Able to thrive in a diverse, fluid research environment
  • Solid collaboration, communication and business relationship skills with customers, management peers, and team members
  • Experience developing documentation such a presentations, project reviews, requirements documents, and schedules
  • Ability to solve technical challenges
  • Motivated, selfdirected, results oriented
