Job Description




SAIC is looking for a Software Systems Administrator in Aberdeen, MD that will be an integral part of our support team assisting HPC staff, researchers and user community with the effective and efficient utilization of HPC assets as they work to solve DoD’s most critical mission challenges.

In support of the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Integrated Technical Services (HITS) task order contract, Team SAIC provides program management and technical support necessary to advance the services, capabilities, infrastructure, and technologies in the HPCMP, Department of Defense (DoD) Supercomputing Resource Centers (DSRC) supercomputing centers.


As a member of the team, the successful candidate will help lead a positive user experience with hands-on support to our users regarding optimal use of DSRC infrastructure and troubleshooting issues users may experience on High Performance Computing (HPC) assets located at the center.

Specific tasks include:

  • Participating in the installation, testing and support of the center HPC systems and software environment.
  • Support system users with technical issues related to system software
  • Participate in the testing and maintenance of our HPC systems and software environment. 
  • Support the Enterprise Software Configuration Management too




Bachelors and four (4) years or more scientific computing experience; or recent bachelors of computer science with some experience with Linux clusters or HPCs. 

Clearance: Must have an Interim Secret to start and be eligible to obtain a Secret security clearance

Certifications: CompTIA Security + required

Required  Skills and Abilities

  • Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts
  • Ability to write and debug shell scripts (bash, csh)
  • Possess excellent communication skills and ability to effectively interact with support staff, users, and management.
  • Organizational skills to balance and prioritize work in a dynamic work environment, and persistence to follow-through on tasks in the face of obstacles
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-faceted team, and leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel
  • Prior experience compiling, installing and maintaining COTS, GOTS, and open source software. This includes building software from scratch in a Linux environment.

 Desired skills

  • Prior service desk or customer facing experience
  • Ability to write and debug interpreted languages (Perl, Python)

  • Some familiarity with workload manager/job/batch scheduling tool
