Job Description


JOB DESCRIPTION: Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application software. Conducts analysis and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting. End product may be special use, customized, or commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs. Ensures software standards are met. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee). Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Work is reviewed by management to measure whether objectives have been met. PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. IMPACT: Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources. LIASON: Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.


Specific Job Description:

Work with a team of software developers providing new software solutions and enhancements for an existing Aircraft Maintenance system and any of NASA/JSC’s Aircraft Operations Divisions (AOD) software applications as needed. 


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Facilitate the client’s product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Work with C#, ASP .Net, HTML, JavaScript, ASP to develop and implement new features and enhance existing features of our applications using Visual Studio 2012 and higher.
    • Assists in design, coding, and testing.
  • Use T-SQL in MS SQL Server to assist in application development, troubleshoot production problems, and generate custom reports.
  • Use Visual Studio and SQL Server Reporting Services to create and maintain reports.
  • Interact with software developers, testers, management and users to accomplish project tasks.
  • Understands standard development lifecycle processes and applies our methodology effectively.
    • Adheres to coding standards defined by technical management.
  • Update software documentation (i.e. Requirements, Design, and User’s Guide) as needed.
  • Write and review test procedures for changes to the application.



TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (required) and three (3) to five (5) years or more experience



  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Sketch, OmniGraffle, Axure, InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer, and the like is necessary.

  • Graphic design experience using Adobe tools to create images.

  • Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.

  • A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns.

  • Experience in using AJAX, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS3, and ES6.

  • Experience with C#, ASP .Net, and JavaScript.

  • Experience with SQL and MS Reporting Services.

  • Ability and desire to learn new languages and technologies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Highly motivated with the ability to work on multiple tasks independently and as part of a project team.

  • Able to break down business problems into solvable components to recommend solutions.


Desired Skills

  • Experience in Web Services and Web API.
  • Experience with Visual Studio and Angular.
