Job Description


SAIC seeks a junior level Linux Systems Administrator to support parallel computing research and development (R&D) at the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Eglin AFB.  This is a part-time position scheduled to work 30 hours per week.  The administrator will grow into an engineer role, must be able to work effectively on their own and within a team of systems engineers and subject matter experts.  We are looking for someone that is excited to participate in R&D studies while enabling AFRL scientists and engineers model, simulate, and analyze modern and next-gen munitions.

A successful candidate will be able to learn on the job and able to accomplish the following:

  • Install and configure Linux software packages, binaries, from source, and from package managers (APT, YUM)
  • Install and configure Linux modules
  • Administrative tasks such as user management, systems monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Modify network interface settings and understand networking at a fundamental level
  • Deploy software in a container (Docker, Singularity, Podman)
  • Learn and manage parallel computing schedulers


Required Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate and 2+ years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Ubuntu LTS 18.04, 20.04, CentOS 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x, Windows 10 
  • Experience with productivity applications (Visio, MS Office, Lucid Chart)
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines, Agile, Kanban (Atlassian, Gitlab)
  • Programming experience, particularly Python and C++
  • Experience with OpenMPI
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree.
  • Operational experience with virtualization and containers

  • GPU experience, particularly CUDA, parallel computing

  • Familiarity with webapp development, i.e. Javascript, Redis, Rust, Celery
