SAIC is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician III in Bedford, IN. 

 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
  • To be covered by these definitions, employees must meet all of the following criteria: Be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.

  • Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. These technicians are required to have some practical knowledge of science or engineering.

  • Some positions may require a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science. Included are workers who prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment. Excluded are: a. Production and maintenance workers, including workers engaged in calibrating, repairing, or maintaining electronic equipment (see Maintenance Electronics Technicians); b. Model Makers and other craft workers; c. Quality Control Technicians and Testers; d. Chemical and other non-engineering laboratory technicians; e. Civil Engineering Technicians and Drafters; f. Positions (below Level I) which are limited to simple tasks such as: measuring items or regular shapes with a caliper and computing cross- sectional areas; identifying, weighing, and marking easy-to-identify items; or recording simple instrument readings at specified intervals; and engineers required to apply a professional knowledge of engineering theory and principles.

  • The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently.

  • Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.

  • This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:a. Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions; b. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment. c. Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data; d. Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation. e. Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

 
JOB DUTIES:  
  • Select candidate will support our engineering team integration and production effort for military rolling platforms and sub-assemblies.
  • The technician may also support testing of platform and sub-assemblies. Position will require preparation for bonding, trimming and drilling of various types of composites and metals.
  • This position requires a sense of urgency, attention to detail, flexibility within constraints of defined processes, ability to multi-task and the ability to work independently.
  • The ideal candidate must be motivated with the ability to work to assigned deadlines and able to work in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Candidate will be required to follow all safety and environmental policies and programs; must be able to use personal safety devices as required by company policy; report any activities that could be detrimental to safety and/or the loss of productivity; report any injuries when they occur. 
  • Must be willing to cross-train into other areas as required to meet production schedules and/or manufacturing needs.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience with a mechanical/electrical background (preferred).
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic math capabilities.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to follow step-by-step instruction to complete production tasking.
  • Experienced accurately measure within specified tolerances. 
  • Effective use of measuring equipment (calipers, protractor, tape measure, etc.)
  • Ability to read specifications, shop drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Must be able to operate basic cutting equipment.
  • Proficient in flame and plasma cutting torches.
  • Proficient with identification of and proper use of hand tools.
  • Capable of using basic precision inspection tools.
  • Self-motivated with a sense of urgency in day-to-day performance.
  • Must be able to work extra hours daily and on weekends as required.
  • Must be able to work in a non-controlled climate - i.e. no air conditioning in the plant.
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs. on a consistent basis. 
Clearance:

US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Full DOD Secret Security Clearance.
