SAIC is looking for a Senior Software Assurance Engineer for our NASA_SMAEC II contract in Houston, TX.  
 

Organization: 

 

Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) Directorate, Quality and Flight Equipment Division, International Space Station Division, IVA/EVA Software Assurance, Gateway

 

Position Purpose: 

 

Assure that acquired and developed NASA Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), International Space Station (ISS) or Gateway software products supporting spaceflight are safe, reliable, and capable of performing required functions.

 
Position Duties:
  • Assuring that GFE, ISS or Gateway software requirements, design, and products meet NASA Flight Program (e.g., International Space Station Program), and Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) software assurance requirements.  
  • Assess software development, test, verification, process documentation, and change products and identify issues and areas of noncompliance.  
  • Ensure compliance with program S&MA requirements (e.g., Computer Based Controls System Safety Requirements (SSP 50038B), ISS System Specifications (SSP 41000) and ISS Safety Requirements Document (50021)) and applicable NASA standards (NPR/JPR 7150.2, NASA-STD-8719, NASA-STD-8739).  
  • Prepare reports, present findings of assessments and evaluations, and provide recommendations to the assigned GFE, ISS or Gateway project, and NASA customer’s Software Assurance Lead.  
  • Author or review and revise internal work processes. 
  • Provide support to project teams for verification/certification testing of software loads/revisions. 
  • Participate in, and represent software S&MA assurance, as appropriate and as required in working groups, panels and boards in order to perform the above described tasks.  
 

Customer: 

 

Our direct customer for GFE is the NASA NT3 Software Assurance Lead and any assigned GFE projects acquiring, developing, and/or integrating software.  Additionally, assignments may include non-GFE projects, and different ISS or Gateway Program related customers (e.g., NASA/NE and NASA/OE).  Other internal customers include the Vehicle Systems Engineering, Safety, Quality and Operations groups as well as the SAIC supervision and management. 

 

Products: 

 

Safety data package inputs; documented comments, issues, reports/assessments, and discrepancies; product inspection/review results; analysis and recommendations for NASA/SAIC management via milestone and product reviews, program panels/boards and Certificate of Flight Readiness (CoFR); procedures.

Qualifications

Position Requirements: 
  • Bachelors or higher degree in computer science or other related software/engineering field. 
  • Understanding of NASA software engineering, and software assurance requirements.
  • Familiar with NASA software flight certification process, including safety.
  • Infrequent (< 5%) travel is possible. 
  • 10+ years related experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Software Assurance of Safety Critical software and/or hardware (at least 6 years)

  • 4 years of experience accepted in lieu of degree

  • Development of NASA Safety Critical software or hardware

  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust

     
This position focuses on assuring NASA projects are safe to operate in safely and reliably in space or on the ground.  Preference will be given to applicants with a verifiable history of producing approved safety products on behalf of NASA flight projects, or reviewing projects on behalf of NASA.  Familiarity with NASA safety review processes is preferred.  Familiarity with NASA flight hardware safety is a plus.
