Job Description


SAIC is seeking a Project Manager to join our program as a lead in managing and supporting our NOAA GFDL IT program in Princeton, NJ serving the NOAA GFDL lab in a highly scientific user and mission driven facility. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with experience managing small to complex projects, budgets of varying sizes, and working knowledge of core Project Management principals.


This position will oversee and manage the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and client management, in a high interrupt environment.


  •          Review and present status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.
  •          Conducting ad-hoc and recurring project reviews with project leads which includes Schedule and Technical reviews.
  •          Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  •          Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project resources, managers, and clients.
  •          Responsible for ensuring contract requirements and subcontractor responsibilities are being accomplished including working on the definition and implementation of project planning techniques to provide visibility on the contract.
  •         Responsibilities may include developing budgets and schedules to meet contractual/project requirements for an assigned portion of a program, participating in and establishing and defining program plan requirements, and monitoring and reporting performance against plans to ensure that contractual, cost and schedule objectives are met.

Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives, though, must understand the environment and prioritize client need based on understanding of client.


PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Participates in the development of solutions to a variety of problems moderate in scope and complexity. Often refers to policies, procedures and practices for guidance.


FREEDOM TO ACT: Works primarily independent while under general direction on routine work. May receive detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.


IMPACT: Contributes to the completion of organizational projects and goals. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to correct.


LIASON: Frequent internal company and external contacts. Represents organization on specific projects.


  • Bachelors in a STEM related field;
  • Four (4) years or more of Project Management experience; 
  • Experience managing IT projects and familiar with core IT and infrastructure concepts; 
  • Ability to bring together and organize a team;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Impeccable attention to detail;
  • Customer facing / presenting skills;
  • Prepare, update and maintain project documents and repositories;
  • Support risk management processes and assist in developing risk mitigation strategies;
  • Ability to work independently, or collaboratively as the situation requires; 
  • Highly organized, analytical, ability to motivate and manage others;
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
