SAIC is seeking a SmallSat Systems Engineer on the NASA OMES II Contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The position is located in Lanham, MD. 

 

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites. The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property.

 


JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will support the JPSS Program Office overseeing both Flight and Ground and the responsibilities include but are not limited to:


- Provide technical support to plan and execute spacecraft acquisition,

development, integration and test (I&T), verification and validation (V&V),

launch, and on-orbit demonstration operations

- Provide technical review and assessment of spacecraft (bus and payloads)

and ground system technologies, concepts, and systems

- Provide technical support to smallsat experimental technology demonstration

planning and execution

- Review, monitor, and track requirements, interface control documents, and test

plans

- Develop documents and briefings to communicate program/project status

- Provide acquisition support to include programmatics (budgets, schedules),

contracts (SOWs, CDRLs, RFPs), and technical objectives as needed

- Perform technical data management activities as required

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline and 9 years related experience.

- Knowledge of spacecraft and/or ground operations, as well as government organizations involved in the space domain or space technology

- Demonstrated ability to converse with highly technical SMEs and to relay government requirements/expectations

- Programmatic fluency in the tracking of cost/schedule/performance

- Strong interpersonal skills with effective technical writing and briefing skills



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-Experience working on NASA programs/projects

-Technical experience in Spacecraft systems engineering, integration and test, and/or spacecraft acquisition

-Experience with spacecraft R&D acquisition lifecycle, processes, and documentation
