Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Support target drone/lightweight torpedo recovery and logistical support for the Combined Test and Evaluation Division, PEO IWS for east coast and gulf coast operations.  
Recovery Mission Specialist (RMS) responsible for the recovery of US Navy target drones (BQM-34/74/177) and lightweight exercise torpedoes (MK-46/54) from civilian helicopters using specialized equipment.  RMS will stand on helicopter skid or approved step attached by gunner's belt providing the pilot verbal guidance to position the helicopter over the target.  Utilize the recovery pole so as to hook or snare the floating target then assist the pilot in lifting the the target out of the water and monitor the target during the transit to the land-based recovery pad.  Provide verbal guidance to pilot to place target on recovery pad.
Flight Safety Aircrewman (FSA) responsible for proper outfitting and use of restraining belts and harnesses by passengers during overwater transit to/from naval vessels by civilian helicopter and their orderly embarkation/debarkation.  Monitor ship flight deck crew for the proper install and removal of tie-down chains and ensure passenger safety during their transits across the flight deck.  Be familiar with the transport of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT).
Required training will be received from team Recovery Mission Coordinator (RMC) consisting of (1) cast and recovery from civilian helicopter via rescue hoist and coping ladder, (2) specialized recovery equipment familiarity, assembly/disassembly, and maintenance, (3) target recovery procedures and techniques, (4) emergencies, and (5) operating areas and recovery facilities familiarization.
Candidates will be required to have and maintain a high degree of physical fitness with an emphasis on swimming.  


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School degree with five (5) years or more experience as US Navy helicopter aircrewman or equivalent experience as civilian search and rescue helicopter aircrewman.  Maintain certification in advanced first aid and CPR.
