JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs Systems Engineering activities related to Information Technology or Engineering including: concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system architecting, system analysis and design, interface and data architectures, validation and verification, systems integration, system & op. performance analysis. 

  • Gather and detail the necessary steps for activating new or transitioning existing data flows
  • attend face to face meetings, VTCs and TDYs to discuss customers' requirements
  • draft troubleshooting guides for use by other engineers
  • provide engineering hardware and software support
  • assist in drafting technical presentations for internal/external organizations

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience.

  • NiFi experience
  • Proficient in LINUX

  • Within the last 7 years, a minimum of 5 years of experience in 4 of the following  (NOTE: A BS degree in engineering, telecommunications or related field may be substituted for experience in 1 specialization):

    • Signal Analysis: Individual shall have analysis experience with modern digital/optical telecommunications systems

    • Modern Tele-communications System and Networks: Individual shall have experience in modern digital telecommunications systems and protocols, to include: Optical Transport Network (OTN) Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Synchronous Optical Networks (SONET), SDH and PDH, LAN/WAN Networks, IP Networks, and ATM switches.

    • Telephony Switching System: Individual shall have experience in telephony switching system networks, to include normalization and mapping.

    • Communications Systems: Individual shall have experience in internet communications. This experience shall be with metadata, protocols, addressing, and routing of today's internet and computer systems.

    • Cellular/Personal Communications Systems: Individual shall have experience in studying, designing, developing, exploiting, and/or testing components or systems that modulate or demodulate mobile cellular/personal communications systems.

    • TDM/PCM Multiplexing / Modulation /Switching Systems: Individual shall have experience in designing, developing, and/or testing components or systems that modulate, demodulate, multiplex and/or demultiplex conventional Bell, CEPT, or SDH/PDH/OTN digital communications signals.

    • Systems Engineering: Individual shall have experience designing and developing large-scale systems, containing multiple subsystems and requiring integration with external systems.

    • Operating Systems: Individual shall have experience identifying, communicating, and troubleshooting system problems caused either by the operating system or the operating system/application interaction on UNIX variant operating systems to include primarily LINUX and SOLARIS.

    • Advanced Protocols: Individual shall have experience in Advanced Protocols, to include Open Transport Network (OTN), Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON), Session Internet Protocol (SIP), and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS).

  • Within the last 5 years, a minimum of 3 years development, integration, testing, and/or installation experience to include generating system/component specifications, recommending solutions, and preparing and conducting test plans (stand-alone, DT&E, OAT&E)

  • Within the last 5 years, a minimum of 3 years of experience with the functionality and inter-processing of packet- and circuit-based HW & SW solutions to include configuring, changing, and optimizing solutions

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership position providing technical supervision to other engineering personnel; solving varied technical/scientific problems; and generating and reviewing designs for technical accuracy, completeness and appropriateness in light of objectives, budget, and schedule.
