Job Description


SAIC is seeking an IT Security Specialist on the NASA OMES II contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Ground program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites.  The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property. 


This role includes ensuring that appropriate steps are taken to implement information security requirements for IT systems throughout their life cycle, from the requirements definition phase through disposal. Must possess effective interpersonal and professional skills as he/she operates in a client-facing role. Must possess experience with NIST 800 publications standards. The candidate shall have experience in preparing documents such as: System Security Plans (SSPs), Contingency Plans (CPs), Risk Assessments Matrices (SRTMs), Security Impact Assessments (SIAs) for proposed changes, as well as having a thorough understanding of NIST publications (SP 800-53, rev3/4, 800-53A, and 800-37).

Activities include but are not limited to the following:

 -Supporting Assessment & Authorization (A&A) activities.

-Performing routine vulnerability/risk assessment analysis.

-Updating system-level policies, assist in developing procedures that meet requirements.

-Assessing new technologies and advise team how to implement into the environment.

-Writing security agreements (SLAs, MOU/As and ISAs).

-Identifying vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs as it relates to information systems.


  • Bachelors Degree and 1-2 years or more experience. Will consider additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Candidate must be familiar with enterprise cyber security architecture and its data collection points, as it relates to incident response and investigations (antivirus, firewalls, email gateways, DNS, web and content filtering proxies, logging infrastructure, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Security Event Information Management Systems (SEIMS), etc.).
