Job Description


Join SAIC’s team in support of the missions of the USTRANSCOM Enterprise Data and Analytics Environment. This is new work to create a scalable, cloud-based Enterprise Data Environment for all military and commercial mission partners; to leverage that environment with adaptive Big Data Analytics technologies, including descriptive/predictive analytics, machine leaning & artificial intelligence; and then to transform, extend, and optimize the data environment for USTRANSCOM’s consumers and deciders.


Junior Data Scientist works in cross-functional teams with data at all stages of the analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight. Translates mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach to achieve results. Performs the pre-analytics areas of data collection and understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and retrieval. Determines the appropriate analytics based on the data and the desired outcomes, using techniques including feature detection, statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and business intelligence. Interprets the validity of results and communicates the meaning of those results. Has familiarity with data wrangling, analytics, and visualization software and programming languages, including analytics methods for big data.  Follows a scientific approach to generate value from data, verifying results at each step.


TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or Data Sciences with minimum 2 years related experience. Other technical degrees, certifications and total experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.


  • US citizen, with active DoD Secret clearance.  (Viable candidates with the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance may be considered.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of DoD, USTRANSCOM and service component (i.e., Army, Air Force, Navy) logistics operations, transportation systems data, and experience with applicable IT technologies.

  • Experience working with scheduling, performance, fielding, compliance with DOD IT standards, and security and accreditation.

  • Experience working in/leading project teams, possibly including Agile methodology Scrum teams.

  • Applicable certifications/experience in and data sciences/tools including but not limited to R/RStudio, Python and SQL. Other experience/certifications including, but not limited to, agile development (e.g., Certified Scrummaster, Scaled Agile), professional or practitioner cloud (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Azure), information security/engineering (e.g., CISSP, Security +).
