SAIC is seeking experienced personnel for the DHS Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Operations Support Directorate (OSD) program to provide administrative, programmatic, training and exercise, medical operations, and information coordination services to in order to enhance the nation’s abilities to prevent terrorists and other threat actors from using weapons of mass destruction and support state and local operational partners in closing capability gaps along adversary pathways.
The Public Health Epidemiology Specialist performs the functions of a technical expert in the relevant public health field in support of major programs or system development. Applies expertise in defining and resolving public health -related system issues, performing analysis, and developing strategies, policies and operating plans in the subject-matter area for complex systems. Supports planning activities for public health studies, and short-term activities to resolve technical issues. Provides subject matter expertise to development of state and local guidance documents, exercises, training, concept of operations documents and response plans to ensure documentation is comprehensive and executable.

Field Operations Support:
• Field Operations collects air filter samples for delivery to testing laboratories daily and as needed for special events. Assist the federal Biodetection Director of Field Operations (DFO) with managing the day-to-day operations, analyzing results, and optimization of the Biodetection field network.
Laboratory Operations Support:
• Laboratory Operations analyzes collected samples to detect the presence of select biological agents and report the results. Assist the federal Biodetection Director of Laboratory Operations (DLO) with managing the day-to-day operations and analyzing results of the Biodetection laboratories.
• Provide technical advice, opinions, and options for determining courses of action for technical issues, concerns and/or areas of potential risk that may arise in the state and local laboratories regarding sample processing and analysis of Biodetection samples, and facilitate discussions with partners as necessary to address these issues. Understand and impact the public health consequences of the decisions.
Jurisdictional Coordination Support:
• Jurisdictional Coordination provides program office guidance and direction to jurisdictions and coordinates activities among state and local policy, public health, and emergency response officials. Assist the federal Jurisdictional Coordination Lead with coordinating jurisdictional activities and addressing the public health aspects of the mission.
Education: Masters or Doctorate-level degree in public health, medicine/veterinary medicine, environmental science or related field.
Experience: 10 to 12 year experience working in the public health field at the local, state or federal level with at least 5 years’ experience in large public health programs in the areas of infectious disease monitoring and response, public health preparedness, surveillance, or environmental health.
Must possess an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain DHS Suitability
