Join SAIC’s team in support of the missions of the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC). As the surface transportation component of the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM), SDDC’s primary functions include worldwide port operations, global traffic management, deployability engineering, and development of integrated transportation systems. The SAIC team will support to the System Development, Maintenance, and Sustainment for the Global Freight Management (GFM) System through transformational, high quality software for GFM-related transportation systems and effectively reporting results, in order for SDDC to make critical implementation decisions.
Principal Java software developer provides top-level technical expertise, including software systems programming and analysis. Guides the successful completion of major programs. Conducts analysis and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs. Ensures software standards are met; ensures work is compatible and in compliance with the standards for open systems and DOD architectures, and offers options for meeting the functional and technical requirements, including hardware and software updates or upgrades. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of the variety of factors. Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. May lead/supervise/guide one or more software and/or IT teams including developers, analysts, testers, database and systems administrators; provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies.
Experience across multiple operating systems, databases, interfaces, and technology stacks.
Experience with Java at a minimum; multiple language development processes and tools/utilities preferred.
Experience leading Agile methodology Scrum software development teams. Department of Defense experience preferred.
Experience with frameworks to support rapid prototyping and development in multiple environments.
Experience in graphical user interface design and construction, Structured Query Language (SQL) data retrieval and applications and object-oriented development concepts and design patterns.
Excellent problem solving, written, verbal and briefing skills.
Experience leading scheduling, performance, fielding, and compliance with DOD and Army IT standards, and security and accreditation.
Experience with guiding the transition of enterprise applications, interfaces and databases from multiple on-prem environments to a cloud environment.
Knowledge of USTRANSCOM and SDDC operations, and experience with IT technologies like Common Development Environment (CDE), EDI, and/or enterprise military logistics software like GFM, GATES, ETA/TEAMS, etc.
Applicable leadership/technical certifications including Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), DevOps, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), etc.
Applicable cloud (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Azure) professional or practitioner certifications.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills; other analytical tools experience is a plus.
