Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs system safety analyses of hardware and software in a variety of systems including weapons defense and combat systems. Utilizes technical and safety review and documentation analysis techniques to include fault tree analyses, failure modes and hazardous effects analyses, inadvertent launch analyses, and other techniques as required. Duties include preparing and/or updating safety assessment reports and risk assessment reports. Reviewing and analyzing system safety management and program plans, safety analyses, accident and incident data, mishap investigation reports, safety test plans and results, and other ESOH related data. Preparing risk assessment reports, safety assessment reports, and technical data packages and presentation materials for safety review boards. Conducting or review safety assessment of new, updated, and/or modified hardware and software, waivers, and exemption requests. Performing operational analyses and studies to identify potential deficiencies in weapon operating procedures, ordnance handling procedures, stowage or other logistics phases involving ordnance, safety procedures, etc. and making specific recommendations for their resolution. May also perform environmental safety assessments on weapons and related systems. Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee). Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

Specific Testing: 

  • Systems safety analysis of hardware and software in the area Navy Missile Systems, to include hypersonic technology.   
  • Prepare/update Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Prepare/review/update Technical Data Packages and Presentation Materials in support of Safety Review Board Reviews including the Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
  • Review System Requirements documentation to identify potential hazardous conditions and make recommendations to system design in collaboration with program staff.
  • Perform operational analysis to identify potential deficiencies in operating procedures, training documentation, maintenance procedures, storage and handling procedures, and/or ordnance handling procedures.
  • Make recommendations to resolve deficiencies.
  • Review and make recommendations to test plans to ensure safety requirements are met.
  • Assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other system change requests to identify/verify safety risks.
  • Collaborate with government vendors during the development of weapons systems.

  • Qualifications

    • Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience.
    • Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management and/or Hazard Analysis
    • Experience with MIL-STD 882E
    • Experience working with US Navy or US Marine Corps combat systems or platforms, especially missile systems
    • Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing weapons systems or complex mechanical or software systems especially those mentioned above
    • Systems Engineering experience with US Navy or US Marine Corps weapons systems
    • Experience preparing technical reports
