Job Description


SAIC is seeking a senior level Systems Engineering, (SEIT) Lead to provide leadership and technical direction for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). The mission of OUSD(R&E) as the Chief Technology Officer is clearly defined to foster technological dominance across the Department of Defense and ensure the advantage of the American warfighter. The OUSD(R&E) enterprise is composed of the Directorate of Defense Research and Engineering for Advanced Capabilities (AC); the Directorate of Defense Research and Engineering for Research and Technology (RT), and 11 modernization priority areas.

The United States ground-based forces are currently limited in effective range of surface-to-surface precision fires. The Integrated Fires program seeks to provide operational/theater level commanders with flexible capabilities to strike time-sensitive targets while providing persistent standoff from unpredictable land-launch positions. This flexibility would restore combatant commander options in force deployment and employment, enabling adaptable engagement at extended ranges.


The SEIT Lead provides leadership in applying the core principles of systems engineering to deliver innovative, affordable, highly reliable systems solutions that meet customer needs, key performance parameters, and program execution goals. The SEIT Lead will lead multi-disciplined engineering teams from concept/technology formulation through system design and then integration and test of highly complex technical systems. The SEIT Lead must be familiar with program scheduling and managing customer deliverables. A successful candidate will have recent, relevant, and significant experience and expertise in end-to-end weapon system design, integration, development, and demonstration. Skilled at Integrated Fires engineering and design for is a plus.

The SEIT Lead will:

  • Own and manage the overall technical baseline of assigned projects
  • Serve as the systems engineering team liaison to program management, customers, and functional management of assigned project
  • Drive systems engineering process application across assigned project
  • Manage risks and opportunities for all systems engineering scope
  • Integrate Systems Engineering functional areas including, but not limited to:
    • Digital Engineering/Model-based Systems Engineering
    • Mission Engineering
    • Stakeholder Analysis
    • Requirements Engineering
    • System Analysis & Trade Studies
    • Modeling and Simulation
    • System Architecture and Design
    • Specialty Engineering, to include Software
    • System Security
    • System Integration & Test
    • System Verification & Validation
    • Logistics
    • Operation, Maintenance, and Sustainment
    • Configuration Management


  • BS degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related technical degree with 15+ years related experience
  • Minimum Secret clearance with ability to achieve TS/SCI
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem solving skills and Systems Thinking mindset
  • Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop/maintain customer and vendor intimacy
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work and lead in a cross-functional integrated product team (IPT) environment
  • Experience in Integrated Fires development, integration, and test
  • Experience in an integration and test environment for complex electronic systems

Desired Qualifications

  • MS degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or related technical degree with 15+ years related experience required
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE) concepts and tools (Rhapsody)
  • Working knowledge of various systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, ClearCase/ClearQuest, MBSE tools)
  • Experience with Joint Fire Support planning, execution, and assessment as defined in Joint Pub 3-09 to include weapon systems support
