Job Description


SAIC is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Engineer in Crane, IN to support the US Navy.


In this role you will assist with General Safety management for the NSA Crane site (including the Lake Glendora site and Contractor facilities where government workers are located). The Safety Specialist will coordinate for various safety functions and programs for the designated department/s, including occupational safety, environmental protection, fire safety, industrial hygiene, safety training assistance, workplace reviews, and audits.

  •  Conducts required building inspections and performs review of procedures and processes
  • Identifies potential hazards of new work or work that is currently being performed in a government facility or by a government worker
  • Coordinates and participates in inspections, hazard identification and determinations of the degree of hazard and/or risk level
  • Provides safety program administration including: preparing monthly reports required for regulatory compliance; maintaining and tracking injury data and statistics; reviewing, developing and/or revising plans, procedures and other applicable technical documentation and information; and maintaining status on all Mishaps, Near Misses, and Unsafe/Unhealthful Working Conditions; and recommending corrective actions and preventative measures to assist management in the corrective action process  
  • Gathers data and prepares monthly metrics for safety programs  
  • Facilitates process documentation and re-engineering meetings including: documenting of process flowcharts, documenting meeting minutes and developing implementation plans
  • Drafts safety plans, reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), NSWC Crane instructions, and other safety related documentation 


  • Must have the ability to identify hidden hazards
  • Must have the ability to effectively map a process using flow charting tools
  • Must have knowledge of good safety practices and governing local, state, and federal rules and regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years experience; Masters and one (1) year  
  • Must have advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively work in a group environment  
  • Must be US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
