JOB DESCRIPTION
 
  • Provides technical support to field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and debugging complex electro/mechanical equipment, computer systems, complex software, or networked and/or wireless systems.

  • Responds to situations where first-line product support has failed to isolate or fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.

  • Reports design, reliability and maintenance problems or bugs to design engineering/software engineering.

  • May be involved in customer installation and training.

  • Provides support to customer/users where the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature.

  • Generally interacts directly with the customer/user when the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature, such as with systems level software where the user has a technical background.

  • Additionally, may interact with product support personnel and potentially the customer when the customer’s problem cannot be resolved directly by first-level resources. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content.  Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).

  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field.  General knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives.  Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.  Work is reviewed by management to measure whether objectives have been met.

  • PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.  Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.  

  • FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under only general direction.  Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • IMPACT: Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects.  Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.

  • LIASON: Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.  Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

 
 
JOB DUTIES:
 
  • Responsible for the translation of operational "demand" from actual war fighters into engineering "supply" of products to comply with intentions of multiple DoD decision processes in support of National Military and Security Strategies.

  • Specifically, this role requires support to strategic intentions for the "needs-based" and "acquisition-based" processes.

  • Requires leading a team or aligning with other teams to shape the definition of USMC only, Multi-Service, and Joint level experiments, operational assessments, or other operational integration activities to mature product engineering over the acquisition continuum.

  • Acquisition continuum includes non-Program of Record, funding outside of "core" accounts as well as traditional acquisition programs.

  • Responsible for identifying and recommending the mitigation of USMC operational engineering risks, in concert with the integrated government and industry engineering community, to refine derived requirements and implementations, as early as possible.

  • Responsible for providing technical assistance in the development, testing, procurement, and program management of technology and/or policy studies or analysis in support of United States government goals and objectives.

  • Works on complex problems.
  • May provide technical guidance to other engineers and scientists. In some instances, this individual may be responsible for a functional area and may not have subordinate employees.

  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.

  • Frequently interacts with subordinates, supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
 
  • HS/GED and nine (9) years’ experience; Associates and seven (7) years’ experience; Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

  • Requires the ability to understand engineering "lead time" for supply, to prioritize war-fighting demands, to project when supply equals demand, and finally, the integrity to be honest to GO/FO leaders when existing practices have broken down.

  • Requires the ability to work with the industrial defense complex within the scope of their contracts.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a Full DOD Secret Security Clearance.
