SAIC is seeking a highly motivated and organized Vision Scientist with expertise in color vision and visual psychophysics to support a vibrant research program aimed at enhancing the survivability of military airmen by enabling them to counter optical threats while exploiting optical systems to enhance their survivability, resiliency and effectiveness.
Roles and Responsibilities (including some or all of the following):
· You will work in a team environment, collaborating with world-renowned scientists, conducting research on laser bioeffects, vision science, human factors, and safety engineering.
· You will lead research efforts on the role of color vision in human perception and performance, in relation to laser visual effects and laser protection technologies in the military environment.
· You will participate in all phases of
research involving human subjects from experimental design, laboratory
instrumentation, data collection, statistical analysis, and manuscript
preparation, and serve in roles as an associate or principal investigator.
Must be a
U.S. citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance
PhD in vision science, experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience or a related discipline
Thorough understanding of the human visual system, particularly color vision
Experience in preparing and executing human subjects’ research protocols is essential
Good multidisciplinary background, involving technical instrumentation, statistical analysis, and data visualization
Demonstrated skills in coding (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, SAS)
Prior research experience (2+ years) in color vision research and visual psychophysics
Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design, and model building would be a distinct advantage
Some experience of human systems interfaces or human factors engineering
