The Senior Infrastructure Engineer supports our Data Center Infrastructure Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team to provide high quality, always on IT environments and solutions that support our customer’s data center hosting technology, application support, cyber security, data management, and other services. Operating within an industry best-practice IT Service Management framework, the Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for performing customer support activities involving the installation, modification, and repair of complex equipment and systems.
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is not a software development role, rather the candidate must have a broad range of skills and a breadth of knowledge in several data center IT disciplines to identify and analyze infrastructure innovations and improvements, conduct on-site installation and testing of equipment to ensure proper working order. This position acts as the company senior engineer with responsibility for implementation and optimization of data center infrastructure hardware (e.g., mainframes, servers, cloud services, data center network, SAN storage, security vulnerability management, backup/restore, messaging, database engineering and administration) and/or software (e.g., virtualization, operating systems, middleware, applications support, IT management tools) and multi-vendor systems at customer sites including integration support of existing hardware, software, network configurations and new system initiatives for all sites within area of responsibility.
This position leads the installation of software maintenance releases or hardware upgrades including the oversight of the installation process and test procedures and provides Tier 3 Incident and Problem Management to diagnose and resolve product performance problems at installation or during operations. Identifies areas requiring product improvement and approves/implements upgrades and hardware or software engineering change orders. Provides feedback and customer support regarding product performance problems and suggested solutions which may require product exchanges or more complex problem solving. This job may include any aspect of data center infrastructure support, not limited to system hardware and software, and networking.
Bachelor’s degree and nine (9) years or more relevant experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more relevant experience.
Must have at a minimum, 6 years in IT technical professional role.
Significant experience supporting, within an ITIL framework, the design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of multiple data center infrastructure domains (servers, network, virtualization, storage, middleware, security, messaging, databases, applications, etc.), the infrastructure supporting an integrated application environment deployed across a multi-vender, multi-site physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure.
Experience in supporting data center infrastructure operations and supporting local and wide area networks in a secure (FISMA/NIST) Federal Government environment.
Significant experience in engineering and technical expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of high availability data center environments and infrastructure to include data backup, replication and synchronization of secure high-availability systems and applications.
ITIL Foundations Certification
One or more current high level technology certification (examples include MCSE, LPIC-3, CCNP, VCAP, or equivalent).
