Job Description


SAIC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Electrical Hardware Applications) on the OMES II contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in support of the Mission Control System segment of the Ground System for Restore-L. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.) on the OMES II contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in support of the Mission Control System segment of the Ground System for Restore-L. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

The Restore-L mission is a Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Satellite Servicing Project Division (SSPD) managed mission. Restore-L is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the Restore-L Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services.


Will provide software development/engineering support for the Restore-L Robot Electronics Unit (REU) Subsystem. Will be responsible for developing the test software for the full testing of all REU electrical hardware. The Restore-L REU Subsystem is responsible for developing the avionics box that will control the robotic technology for the Restore-L servicing vehicle and operate the two robotic arms during the Landsat-7 servicing operations.


Job duties include:

  • Develop new and update existing LabView apps for operating the Restore-L EGSE systems.
  • Interface EGSE systems with external test scripting software (ASIST or MCAPS)
  • Reverse engineer existing application (MCAPS) written in Tcl.
  • Define updates necessary to interface the MCAPS application to LabView apps.
  • Implement changes to MCAPS (Tcl and/or C/ C++).
  • Support the development of integration and test programs for REU card and box level testing.
  • Perform card and box level testing/troubleshooting as required
  • Interface with the Restore-L robotic team to define the testing architecture necessary for the REU hardware.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related degree and 9+ years of directly applicable experience.
  • Must be able to pass a Government background investigation.
  • Strong Labview experience.
  • Must be able to analyze and understand previously developed LabView applications and provide solutions for connecting these applications to other external software systems using standard packet protocols such as CCSDS.
  • Must be able to analyze and understand existing software applications written in Tcl and/or C/C++ then develop updates to interface these applications to the LabView applications using standard packet protocols.
  • Experience with standard best practice software development lifecycle
  • Experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle – gathering requirements, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and deployment to the end user.
  • Ability to assess new APIs and tools for software development.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desired Qualifications



  • Knowledge of the Advanced System for Integration and Spacecraft Test (ASIST) system is highly desired.
  • Specifically, database configuration, page display generation and Systems Test and Operation Language (STOL).
  • Experience with NASA mission lifecycle and review cycle (design reviews, requirements reviews, integration reviews, trade studies, etc.)
