SAIC is currently looking for an experienced systems engineer to join our team in Aurora, Colorado (Buckley AFB). The desired candidate will possess current knowledge/experience with Air Force Acquisition processes, familiarity with the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), and have recent experience with SBIRS data exploitation, demonstration, innovation, and advancement of SBIRS capability delivery to the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Battlespace Awareness Center (OBAC) operations. The engineer will be the primary System Engineer and Technical Advisor (SETA) support to OBAC Program Manager (PM) in support of the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Technical Services (STS) contract to the SMC Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Directorate.


The OBAC systems engineer will interface with development contractors and agencies in technical discussion, test/validation, program documentation, and transition to operations, and provide recommendations to the Government for all program activities. The selected candidate will support OBAC PM, OBAC operations, capabilities development, capability integration, and sustainment activities of the SMC/RSX Program Office within the SMC Remote Sensing Systems Directorate from an offsite location of Buckley AFB, CO. 

Key Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide support to OBAC PM in drafting statements of work, contract acquisition documents and perform technical evaluations to award SMC/RSX contract initiatives that exploit data and provide actionable information to the warfighter
  • Ensure OBAC capabilities fully support SBIRS and SMC/RSX requirements and are consistent with customer budget, schedule, risk profile, and other program constraints
  • Coordinate across SMC/RS divisions to ensure that above are successfully accomplished.
  • Architect end-to-end OBAC mission solutions across exploitation capabilities to support end user mission needs
  • Support all phases of OBAC development, to include requirements analysis, acquisition strategy, design, and integration with current and future systems
  • Bridge from the programmatic planning to development, implementation, and operation of capabilities
  • Provide hardware and software transition oversight from development to operations within OBAC’s open framework architecture environment
  • Coordinate activities across a network of Government (DoD, IC and Civil), contractor and academic experts in the Infrared and Geospatial Intelligence communities, including coordinating across and between R&D/acquisition and Operational communities
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to OBAC operations on behalf of SMC/RSX and ensure existing OBAC capabilities are maintained and products are delivered to existing users

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Must possess a Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Must be willing to take polygraph

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  •       Bachelors (STEM) and seven (7) years or more of related experience -OR- Masters and five (5) years or more of related experience -OR- PhD and three (3) years or more of related experience; or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. 

  • Demonstrated experience in OPIR, fielding and integration of new capabilities, and development of associated hardware/software subsystems
  • Ability to recommend/make decisions on project work matters and ensure effective achievement of program, project, or organizational objectives
  • Exercise independent judgment in analysis and evaluation of technical criteria and data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building, and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS)
  • Experience in missile warning and/or space operations
  • Experience with operational product needs/desires
  • Experience delivering effective products to satisfy user needs across the DoD and Intelligence communities
  • Experience integrating new sensors and upcoming capabilities into an established baseline
  • Experience with cyber security principals and documentation
  • Experience with agile principals
  • Experience working in an Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) role
  • Experience in hardware/software development and delivery principals
  • Experience in Systems Engineering of space programs
  • Knowledge of DoD Acquisition processes
