SAIC currently has an opening for a mid-senior level Windows System Administrator/Engineer.  Selected candidate will be part of a team responsible for architecting and designing infrastructure solutions for a health industry customer on a customer site in Rockville MD. Will be responsible for the identification of new technology, developing strategies to improve network functionality, evaluating technology options, creating designs, testing/validating effectiveness of designs, project managing large migrations, as well as, providing day-to-day 3rd level trouble shooting support as needed. 

 

Will require strong written and verbal communications skills and involve working directly with the customer on-site.

 

Responsibilities to include:

 

·         Systems/Network Administration:

 

o   Installing and configuring new physical/virtual servers.

o   Installing and configuring new hardware (VMware hosts, SAN storage, etc.).

o   Performing Active Directory maintenance and management.

o   Providing GPO creation, editing and analysis.

o   VMware vSphere Administration

o   Nimble SAN Administration

o   Performing post-implementation 3rd level support, identifying root cause with strategic solutions to problems.

o   Performing ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.

o   Upgrading administrative tools and utilities; configure / add new services as necessary.

o   Repair and recover of hardware or software failures; coordinating and communicating with impacted constituencies.

 

·         Information Systems Security:

 

o   Applying OS/3rd party application patches and upgrades.

o   Reviewing Tenable reports and coordinating vulnerability remediation efforts.

o   Providing weekly reports on vulnerability remediation efforts.

o   Providing anti-virus administration (Cylance).

 

·         Daily Systems Monitoring:

 

o   Verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes.

o   Verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.

o   Reviewing system and application logs.

 

·         Systems Documentation:

 

o   Creating/Modifying standard operating procedures.

o   Documenting system configurations (including change logs).

o   Creation of “How-To” and Troubleshooting documents.

 

·         Being project lead and/or technical resource for various infrastructure-related projects.

·         Provide on-call support on a rotational basis for NIMH technical infrastructure.


Qualifications

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER EXPERTISE REQUIRED.  The contractor must have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Sciences or a related discipline and 4 years’ experience; will accept an additional four (4) years of specialized experience plus a high school education in lieu of a degree. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience as a Windows System Administrator, preferably with a MSCE certification for Windows 2012 or higher.
  • Broad expertise in the specification, evaluation, installation, configuration, and management of networked computing facilities.
  • Knowledge of most aspects of operating system administration including system installation and configuration, configuration of web and database servers, mail systems, fundamentals of security, installing third party software.
  • Familiarity with advanced networking/distributed computing environment concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security, etc)
  • Independent problem-solving, self-direction, ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
  • Experience administering production-grade Windows 2012/2016 systems running IIS with multiple share domains in a 24X7 data center environment.
  • Experience administrating production-grade Windows 2012/2016 systems running MS SQL Server in a multi-user environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to train support technicians in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with staff.
  • Experience/knowledge of the principal of NAS/SANs concepts (Nimble, Exagrid).
  • Experience/knowledge of principal of virtualization (VMWare in particular).
  • Experience with Group Policy Objects.
  • Experience with Powershell/Shell scripting.
  • Experience with SCCM, BigFix, and/or Ivanti Security Controls a plus.
