SAIC is looking to hire a Payload COMSEC Engineer in Chantilly, VA The position requires an engineer with technical expertise in COMSEC design. This person will work part-time with PEB, part time with SE&I. The selected candidate will be an integral participant in COMSEC trades, subsystem design, performance analysis and hardware/software development and certification. 


Key areas of focus include COMSEC implementation trades, performance predictions and/or evaluations, system impact evaluations, security planning and certification.


The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished at the request of the customer:

 

  • Support the customer in the oversight of the design, integration, test and certification of COMSEC subsystems
  • Provide expert advice and coordination concerning COMSEC equipment for satellite and ground interaction
  • Assess feasibility of new digital insertions and digital functionality enhancements
  • Review and coordinate on changes to specifications, lCDs and system level requirements documentation pertaining to the functionality and accommodation of COMSEC hardware onto the satellite bus
  • Review COMSEC specifications for accuracy and ensure documentation is complete and accurate
  • Review drawings, documents and procedures for COMSEC design, manufacturing, integration, security, program planning and execution: provide comments to the contractor and/or government
  • Track development issues, significant accomplishments and upcoming events and provide weekly status updates to the customer
  • Develop COMSEC models for performance evaluations and predictions as required
  • Attend ground and payload level design reviews and program management reviews to assess COMSEC design maturity, requirements compliance and to provide informed technical recommendations to the USG
  • ldentífy and assess emerging risks; develop and evaluate proposed burn-down plans
  • Review prime contractor readiness to proceed into COMSEC certification, manufacturing and test
  • Provide expert advice/analysis on interface considerations for new COMSEC developments
  • Coordinate with payload subsystem leads, branch chiefs and division chiefs both within S&L and outward to SE&I/AP and
  • CCD in support of new payload and payload subsystem initiatives
  • Provide support to launch and satellite on-orbit test as required by the customer
  • Attend Payload Engineering branch meetings as appropriate at the request of the customer to coordinate support activities
  • Provide technical evaluation of payload efforts in contractor Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)
  • Attend contractor milestone reviews (e.g. PDR, CDR, pre-test, pre-ship and other meetings) to provide technically based recommendations regarding satisfaction of COMSEC related review entrance and exit criteria
  • Provide support to factory integration and test activities as required
  • Develop productive relationships with prime contractor counterparts, functional counterparts, and other subject matter experts
  • Advise and mentor USG Payload and CCD subsystem personnel regarding COMSEC subsystem design elements


 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Must currently possess an active TS/SCI + CI polygraph
  • Associates degree and 15+ years of experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of related experience
  • Education and experience with spacecraft digital design, manufacture, and test
  • Basic understanding of DOD/lC satellite systems and architectures
  • Experience in DOD/IC acquisition and program management processes
  • Available to travel domestically
