SAIC is seeking an RF Comm Engineer on the OMES II contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  Potential candidates will serve as the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Flight Operations RF Communications Subsystem Engineer.  The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.



The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites. The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Support JPSS Mission Operation Support Team (MOST) as an Electrical Power Systems Engineer
  • Will be assigned to the EPS subsystem and also support the Thermal system
  • Support the Mission Operations Support Team (MOST) in development of ground/spacecraft pre-launch processes and procedures for JPSS-2
  • Interface with the spacecraft vendors and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to understand the instruments 
  • Develop test procedures and test execution for system level, end-to-end tests with the spacecraft
  • Identify and trouble shoot issues with the satellite subsystem and work with SME for resolution
  • Support Mission Rehearsals and Pre- Launch activities as a support engineer
  • Support the spacecraft during launch and activation of the spacecraft
  • This will include 24/7 support in 12 hour shifts during the Launch Campaign and Pre-Launch test Activities


    Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
    • Bachelors Degree and 2 years related experience.
    • MS office skills
    • Must be able to pass a NACI background investigation prior to starting
    Desired:
    • One to three years of satellite operations experience
    • Previous experience/proficiency with tools/languages such as STK, MATLAB, ECLIPSE, CECIL, and Perl 
    • Experience with prelaunch campaigns and launch and early orbit operations
