SAIC is seeking a mid-level electrical design engineer with experience in printed circuit board or harness design on the OMES II contract in support of the Restore-L program in the Satellite Servicing Projects Division (SSPD) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

The Restore-L mission is a Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Satellite Servicing Project Division (SSPD) managed mission. Restore-L is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the Restore-L Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. The SSPD is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test and operations of the Restore-L Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC.


JOB DESCRIPTION:
The engineer will provide electrical design and drafting support for the Restore-L mission. The candidate will provide electrical design support for projects in various stages of the NASA development lifecycle. The candidate will support legacy products and development of new designs.

Job duties include:
• Design electronic circuits with digital and analog functionality for spacecraft applications.
• Select components suitable for spacecraft applications (radiation considerations, etc.)
• Effectively and efficiently resolve manufacturing-related design issues
• Check completed layouts and drawings for conformity to standards, completeness, specifications, and accuracy
• Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
• Interface with various customers and engineers to ensure program objectives are achieved on budget and on schedule.

Printed Circuit Board Design –
• Layout of multi-layer printed circuit board modules and their associated assemblies
• Scheduling, designing, and documentation of high-reliability, multi-layer, and surface-mounted Printed Wiring Boards to NASA and IPC specifications
• Parts selection, schematic capture, PWB creation support, performance analysis and simulation and design verification testing
• Use of electronic design automation software for the creation and validation of electronic symbols, schematics, net-lists, PCB land patterns, component placement, trace routing, fabrication data, and documentation
• Generation of formal documentation and electronic files for manufacture

Cable/Harness Design –
• Create harness designs for flight and ground-test cables.
• Parts selection, performance analysis and simulation and design verification testing
• Generation of formal documentation and electronic files for manufacture

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineer, aerospace engineer, or closely related field with 9+ years of related experience
• Electrical printed circuit board or cable/harness design experience
• Experience with standard programs and design analysis tools such as Mentor Graphics PADS software, PSpice, AutoCAD, Hyperlynx, Matlab, Mathcad, Orcad, Allegro, Visio, CreoView, etc.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
• Experience with NASA specifications for circuit board and harness design
• Rigid flex circuit experience is a plus
• Demonstrated understanding of the applicable engineering and manufacturing knowledge required for product design and testing. Exercises engineering judgment in developing appropriate decisions considering decision criteria, implications, and possible consequences, to ensure product design integrity
• Experience working with program requirements, equipment performance specs, wire connection lists, schematics, wire gauge sizing, connector selection and related cabling and harnessing documentation
• Knowledge of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) considerations with respect to electrical design
• Familiarity with MIL standards and requirements, NASA standards and requirements, AS9100 or ISO 9001
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to work as a team member
• Capable of functioning in multi-disciplined design teams across multiple projects
• Well organized and possess excellent communication skills
• Able to plan and prioritize work effort and quickly respond to issues and questions
