Job Description




SAIC is currently looking for an experienced Senior/Lead Technical Writer for the GCSS-Army INC 2 project. The duty location is in Huntsville, Alabama and an active Secret security clearance is required.
Responsibilities Include:
As the Senior/Lead Technical Writer supporting GCSS-Army INC 2, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
  • Candidate will be required to manage multiple writing projects, priorities, and technical inputs with very little supervision.
  • Candidate will edit and produce complex software-related documentation. Technical projects will include (but are not limited to) developing user’s guides, functional and technical specifications, technical reports, software design documents, configuration guides, installation guides, training materials, and more.
  • Candidate will be required to take and publish minutes for technical meetings on occasion.
  • Candidate will be required to work successfully with SMEs, assist technical team members with writing tasks, train individuals in operating Microsoft Suite products, and train novices in technical writing skills as necessary.
  • Candidate will be required to be an administrator for the project’s Confluence website.
  • Candidate will be expected to follow processes, writing/style conventions, and configuration management established for GCSS-Army documentation.




Education Required:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field and 10+ years of related experience; MBA and 8+ years of experience


Required Skills/Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or equivalent.

·         A strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple assignments with little supervision.

·         Ability to plan/schedule work activities and accommodate constantly changing priorities in a busy team environment.

·         Ability to learn new software quickly.

·         Excellent written/verbal communications skills and attention to detail.

·         Demonstrable advanced proficiency using MS Word.

·         Demonstrable advanced proficiency in grammar and punctuation.

·         Proficiency using MS Excel and PowerPoint.

·         Proficiency in creating/editing basic graphics (e.g., flowcharts and organization charts).

·         Willingness to occasionally perform work outside normal duties/responsibilities.

·         U.S. citizenship.


Desired Qualifications:

While not required, any of these skills are considered desirable in a candidate:

·         Visio, GIMP, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar graphics applications.

·         Confluence, Jira, and MS SharePoint.


Clearance Requirement:

·         Active Secret Clearance Required
