SAIC is seeking a Ground Systems Engineer on the NASA OMES II contract in support of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) program at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The position is located in Greenbelt, MD.


The Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation program that acquires and distributes global environmental data primarily from multiple polar-orbiting satellites.  The program plays a critical role to NOAA’s mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans and coasts, and the space environment, which support the Nation’s economy and protect lives and property. 


This is a senior system engineering position with an emphasis on ground system engineering and test services during the continued implementation of upgrades to the Command, Control & Communications (C3S) segment and the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) of the ground system for the NPP, JPSS-1 and GCOM missions as well as implementation of the JPSS-2 and future mission capabilities. 


JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Develop and decompose requirements
  • Oversee and provide guidance on ground system design
  • Develop mission systems level concepts of operations and provide input the the vendor's operations concept
  • Provide oversight into interface design and develop interface control documents (ICD)
  • Participate in Verification and validation activities including:
    • Writing Test Procedures
    • Mapping Requirements to procedures 
    • Monitoring tests for verification of requirements

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelors degree and 5+ years of related experience
  • Spacecraft technical information engineering
  • Ground system development and operations engineering
  • Direct, relevant experience and familiarization with NASA/NOAA system architecture and organizational structures
  • Strong ability to lead and interact with distributed team members and different corporate cultures

DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of system engineering and integration tools
  • Flight system engineering information management
  • Flight software database and table management
  • Experience in system and schedule integration
