Job Description


Duties and responsibilities Summary:

SAIC is currently looking for Quality Engineers to support launch system SE&I activities for the Launch Enterprise (LE) Directorate at SMC. This position is located at Vandenberg AFB, CA. Key aspects of this oversight will include the following:

Supports launch vehicle certification activities

Supports production and quality assessment of launch vehicle providers, mission integration activities, and launch site integration

Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess control and manage risks of product quality and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.

Audits quality systems for development acceptance criteria (parameters based on product result).


Job Specific Responsibilities:

Assess product assurance projects and develop a process (es) to enhance effectiveness and efficiencies of such projects as: non- conformance reduction, lean manufacturing initiatives, foreign & domestic object damage and quality escape elimination.

Identify and document hardware pedigree issues and corrective measures and assess manufacturing, production, and quality processes as a member of the pedigree team

Assess and provide recommendations to the Government regarding Prime contractor quality methods, quality metrics, and processes

Review Prime contractor production quality, statistical analysis, root cause determination methodology and provide the government with disposition of their processes compared to industry standards

Review and distribute Government Industry Data Exchange Program information to Directorate technical teams.

Review, participate in and coordinate Parts Material and Process Control Board meetings and actions.

Coordinate surveillance activities with DCMA and assist in developing the Directorate/DCMA Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and supplier letters of delegation.

Other Duties:

May undertake root cause analysis of incidents requiring corrective action. Ensures that corrective measures and deviation meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.


Required Qualifications & Experience

Clearance level: DoD Secret; TS/SCI desired

Participated with senior managers to establish plans and objectives

Ability to recommend/make decisions on administrative or project work matters and ensures effective achievement of program, project, or organizational objectives


Desired Education and Years of Experience

Bachelors and nine (9) years or more of related experience


Masters and seven (7) years or more of related experience

PhD or JD and four (4) years or more of related experience

Desired Certifications

Quality Engineer Certification CQE

Certified in lean and six-sigma quality methodologies and utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.


Desired Qualifications and Experience

Experience performing QA duties for space/launch systems

Launch Vehicles and Subsystems (Avionics, Propulsion, Structures)

Space and Ground systems

Launch Site activities
