The Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in Colorado Springs, CO has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer focused on engineering activities for the Survivable Endurable Missile Warning Program Office. This individual will have experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based sensing systems and ground-based system survivability. Candidate will provide SE&I support to the Next Generation (Next Gen) Survivable Endurable Project Manager in support of the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Enterprise, a development program at the Air Force Space and Missile System Center (SMC). Candidate will support requirements development and acquisition management activities to include requirements traceability analysis, change impact analysis, technical baseline integration, verification planning and execution, and risk management. Candidate should have experience with system acquisition and systems engineering lifecycle for space and ground systems (especially at SMC). Major duties of the position include:

• Support planning and execution of Next Gen System requirements and design reviews
• Support planning and execution of Next Gen Baseline Threshold Reviews
• Draft/refine Next Gen S/E implementation concepts and fiscal planning documents
• Support Next Gen Enterprise and S/E system Design Reviews
• Support trade studies and engineering analyses for needed capabilities
• Draft/refine Next Generation S/E system Operations Concepts
• Draft S/E section for the Next Generation Annex to the Test and Evaluation Master Plan
• Establish/refine Next Generation S/E architectural products
• Provide engineering support and analysis for managing/sustaining Next Generation S/E user and system interfaces
• Interact with the development contractor and government leads to ensure that all system requirements and interfaces are consistent and valid across the SBIRS enterprise
• Establish and maintain programs and processes for effective requirements documentation, integration, and verification across space and ground hardware/software for Next Generation S/E systems
• Maintain the technical baseline, including coordinating with development contractors to manage configuration and changes for system specifications, engineering documentation and interface documents
• Apply systems engineering processes to support effective integration, verification, and system transition efforts
• Manage risks for multiple programs as well as developing risk mitigation courses of action.
• Develop acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation in support of decision making
• Collaborate with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree is required. BS in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical, Communications Engineering (technical), Math, Physics, or similar
• 10-15 years of experience in acquisition management and systems engineering. Prefer experience that spans the entire system lifecycle, including sustainment
• Strong understanding of fundamental requirements development and management processes, to include interface management and development/maintenance of Interface Control Documents
• Demonstrated acquisition experience working with Air Force/DoD customers on Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems and ground and space system acquisition
• Demonstrated experience in supporting trade studies and analysis of alternatives for operational space systems
• Strong understanding of fundamental requirements development and management processes, to include interface management and development/maintenance of Interface Control Documents
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
• Experience with requirements and interface management, risk management, change boards and change board environment
• Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings
• Strong interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams
• Ability to travel periodically

Desired Qualifications

 

• Master’s Degree is preferred
• SBIRS and/or Nuclear Detonation Detection System operations experience highly desirable
• Experience with Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment Systems highly desirable
