Description

A challenging instructor position that equips Navy Information System Technicians with knowledge of radio frequency communication principles, communications systems and components, communications security, and communications procedures, practices, and management. Train and develop student skills to operate external communications suites in the high frequency (HF) through extremely high frequency (EHF) radio frequency (RF) spectrums and the Automated Digital Network System (ADNS). The instructor will provide comprehensive training in the Navy's JCC course that includes operation, system configuration, system performance monitoring, fault isolation, and circuit restoration of IT communication systems including ADNS.

 

The instructor works under general direction and well-established procedures but may also receive detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Work is evaluated on soundness of judgment, overall instructor and technical support performance and accuracy, team collaboration and support, and customer satisfaction. Instruction of evening classes is occasionally required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. A DoD Secret level security clearance is required. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, evaluating and executing training programs and activities to meet customer requirements and team learning and performance objectives  
  • Preparing training materials and lab equipment for course delivery
  • Setting up and instructing both classroom and practical hands-on portions of each course
  • Ensuring technical training equipment is ready for training
  • Preparing and instructing courses using standard Navy training practices and procedures
  • Collaborating with team members and customer personnel to develop, enhance, and evaluate new or existing learning objectives and course content
  • Monitoring and evaluating training, assessing results, and recommending and implementing enhancements
  • Developing and submitting periodic reports

Qualifications

Formal Instructor Training (one of the following):

  • Navy’s Basic Instructor Training Course
  • Industry Training Certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Trainer, accredited instructor course, etc.)
  • Formal teaching degree or certification
  • Master Training Specialist (MTS) qualification (preferred but not required)

 Experience:  5 years (minimum) combined experience in:

  • Instructing courses
  • Providing technical support for course curriculum reviews and revisions
  • Providing technical support (i.e., operational expertise, system administration or maintenance) for Navy IT RF communication systems and shipboard network systems (e.g., ADNS and CANES)

Certifications and Qualifications: Must obtain the following within 6 months of hire:

  • JCC course instructor qualification
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Cisco CCNA (for ADNS course instruction)

Education: Bachelor’s and 5 years of related experience. 9 years of experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree

Clearance: Active Secret


Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
