We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Admin Principal to join our talented team. This role will require skills in database design, data analysis, performance tuning, data security, data visualization, strong communication abilities, and the ability to translate complex business needs into database structures. Responsibilities include managing and optimizing existing databases, designing new databases, ensuring data integrity, performing data analysis, and collaborating with stakeholders to identify data requirements.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business requirements, design database architectures, and implement new database systems.
  • Extract data from various sources, transform it into a usable format, and load it into the database.
  • Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks, optimize queries, and implement indexing strategies.
  • Establish data quality standards, enforce data access controls, and manage data lifecycle.
  • Conduct complex data analysis, generate reports, and provide insights to stakeholders.
  • Supervise and mentor junior database analysts, provide technical expertise on database technologies, and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Gather requirements, communicate technical concepts to non-technical users, and align database strategies with business objectives.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree and ten (10) years of professional experience administering, testing, and implementing computer databases.
  • Experience with Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and NoSQL databases.
  • Relevant database certifications like Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL Server Certified, or MySQL Certified.
  • Experience writing complex queries, data manipulation, joins, subqueries, stored procedures, and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to design database structures, entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), normalization, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience managing database instances, backups, recovery, security, performance monitoring, and tuning.
  • Experience utilizing tools like Tableau, Power BI to extract insights, create dashboards, and present data effectively.
  • Ability to identify and resolve data inconsistencies, implementing data cleansing procedures, and defining data quality metrics.
  • Experience leading data projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, setting timelines, and managing deliverables.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, explain technical concepts, and present findings.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
