We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Operations Research Analyst Principal to join our talented team. In this role, you will apply advanced mathematical modeling and optimization techniques to support management decision-making, policy formulation, and operational improvement. You will lead comprehensive data analysis to develop strategic recommendations, collaborate across departments to implement changes, and supervise junior analysts to foster their development.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and apply mathematical modeling and other optimizing methods to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision-making, policy formulation, or other managerial functions.
  • Collect and analyze data and develop decision support software, service, or products.
  • Develop and supply optimal time, cost, or logistics networks for program evaluation, review, or implementation.  
  • Interpret results and formulate insights and findings underpinned by the data analysis.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement across various operational functions.
  • Develop comprehensive operational improvement strategies based on data insights, including cost optimization, efficiency enhancements, and process re-engineering.
  • Lead and collaborate with teams from different departments to gather data, implement changes, and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of operational improvements and identify areas needing further attention.
  • Analyze complex operational issues, identify root causes, and propose data-driven solutions to address challenges.
  • Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership through compelling presentations and reports.
  • Supervise and provide guidance and support to junior analysts, fostering their development and analytical capabilities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's level degree in an Engineering discipline, Physics or Mathematics and a Master's level degree in Operations Research or Mathematics.
  • Ten (10) years professional experience in operations research.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, predictive modeling, data mining, and advanced data visualization tools.
  • Strong understanding of business operations, processes, and financial metrics across different functional areas.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and drive change initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication to present complex data insights to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage large-scale operational improvement projects from initiation to implementation.
  • Expertise in data analysis software, programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), and business intelligence tools.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
