Position Overview: We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Scientist Associate to join our talented team. This role requires skills in data collection, cleaning, exploration, basic statistical analysis, data visualization, programming languages like Python, and a foundational understanding of machine learning algorithms, with responsibilities including: extracting data from various sources, performing data cleaning and preparation, exploring data patterns, building simple predictive models, creating visualizations to communicate insights, and collaborating with stakeholders to define data science problems and present findings.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in cross-functional teams with data at all stages of the analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight.
  • Translate mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach to achieve results. 
  • Perform the pre-analytics areas of data collection and understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and retrieval. 
  • Familiarity with analytics, and visualization software and programming languages, including analytics methods for big data.
  • Determine the appropriate analytics based on the data and the desired outcomes, using techniques such as feature detection, statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, or business intelligence. 
  • Analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships between variables.
  • Interpret and report on the validity of results; create clear presentations and reports to communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports summarizing key findings and insights from data analysis.
  • Follow a scientific approach to generate value from data, verifying results at each step.  
  • Gather data from various sources like APIs, databases, and flat files. 
  • Clean and transform data to ensure quality and consistency for analysis. 
  • Create new features from existing data to improve model performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and 0-2 years professional experience required; however, relevant academic projects or internships are beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Python (with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib) for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization. 
  • Understanding of statistical concepts like hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and probability distributions to interpret data effectively. 
  • Ability to identify and handle missing values, outliers, and inconsistencies in data. 
  • Ability to create descriptive statistics, data visualizations (charts, graphs) to identify patterns and trends in the data. 
  • Familiarity with supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms (e.g., linear regression, decision trees, clustering) and their applications. This is Machine Learning
  • Knowledge of SQL to query and extract data from relational databases.
  • Ability to clearly communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through presentations and reports.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
