Job Description

Description

Space-Track Full Stack Engineer

SAIC seeks a Full Stack Engineer to join a small, high-performing, Agile team that shares situational awareness of space satellites/debris with the world in support of the Department of Defense (DoD) spaceflight safety mission.  This role directly supports the US Space Command's Space Forces - Space (S4S), with a primary work location in Santa Maria, CA.

Using scrum methodology and a cloud-based stack, the successful applicant will work with the motivated team to create solutions that are imaginative, practical, and consistent with Space Command objectives.  They will be cross-functional and have the ability to switch between disparate tasks.  From working with web code, to managing cloud infrastructure, to supporting database and server upgrades, each day is different and they will be exposed to a wide spectrum of technology.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and debug web and cloud-native applications in PHP, JavaScript, and other languages.
  • Apply in-depth understanding of software design and construction with a focus on web services (e.g., REST, API, AJAX), and data transmission formats/protocols such as JSON and XML.
  • Design, deploy, and manage various servers, databases and cloud resources utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IAC).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance once hired.
  • At least five years of experience and a bachelor’s degree.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience developing, deploying, and operating production applications in a cloud environment.
  • Experience working at each stage of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), preferably in an Agile model.
  • Understanding of software design and construction using modern technologies, techniques, and architectures (e.g., Service Oriented Architecture).
  • Ability to calmly and efficiently debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Ability to understand complex access and security models.
  • Self-driven and motivated to learn, with a strong sense of ownership, work ethic, and a passion for problem solving.  Ability to work proactively, independently and as a member of a highly effective, technical, and fast-moving team while developing novel approaches to solutions.

One or more of the following skillsets:

    • Familiarity with creating/modifying automated tests using TestNG or similar software testing frameworks.
    • Familiarity with client-side web development using HTML, ECMA/JavaScript, CSS, and server-side web development using interpreted languages, such as PHP, Perl, or Python.
    • Understanding of SQL and relational database management systems (RDBMS), including database design, structures, and query performance.
    • Understanding of Linux systems, networking, and network protocols.
    • Experience with IAC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and others.
