JOB DESCRIPTION: Supports engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout and trouble-shooting functions. . Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Collects, maintains, organizes, compiles, and manipulates technical data. Prepares engineering documentation, reports, drawings (sketches/flow charts/diagrams/schematics, etc.). Performs mathematical calculations per engineering specifications. Undertakes analyses of data where guidelines are provided. SCOPE: N/A PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: N/A FREEDOM TO ACT: Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments. LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT: N/A KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Full knowledge of the job. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Supervision Received: Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments. IMPACT: Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve. LIASON: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department of which may be a sensitive nature.

Qualifications

This SAIC/WSTF position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity with SAIC to support NASA’s human spaceflight programs.  You will verify the conformance to requirements of ground-based pressure vessels and pressurized systems (PVS) and provide technical support and inspection consultation as required. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years of basic Engineering courses in mechanical, chemical, civil engineering or engineering technology, or physics courses from an accredited institution.   A degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the design, fabrication, installation, operation, or evaluation of pressure vessels or piping systems.  Engineering and/or physics courses may be substituted for experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME, NBIC, ANSI, API, AWS, and DOT Codes, Standards, and Regulations.
  • An applicant familiar or possessing the minimum skills and knowledge associated with the Owners Inspector as defined by ASME B31.3, or trained but not certified as an National Board Inspector Code (NBIC) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities include;

  • Recommending certification of WSTF Pressure Vessel Systems (PVSs) to the WSTF Pressure System Manager (PSM)
  • Providing recommendations for correcting non-conformances.
  • Reporting any dissenting opinion concerning PVS certifications, variances, or non-conformance dispositions.
  • Performing or directing limited Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) to monitor the integrity of PVS.
  • Verifying that the PVS meets or exceeds requirements.
  • Reviewing PVS Package Documentation to ensure conformance to the applicable requirements and identifies missing content.
  • Verifying that required NDE and testing was performed.
  • Specifying additional inspection points to the PVS Designer.
