To address the growing demands within the Department of Defense, SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Senior Program Technical Writer to join and support our Digital and AI Team as we embark on a large initiative to lead the design and operate integrated Enterprise IT solutions that deliver AI-enabled capabilities and enable data-driven decision making to missions across the Department, Services, and Combatant Commands.  

The Ideal candidate will be adept at managing customer relationships, driving operational excellence, and fostering continuous improvement across all service areas.

Core Responsibilities

  • Write technical manuals, training manuals, and standard operating procedures for prototypes undergoing development. These manuals are prototypes themselves and are held to a shifting portfolio standard.
  • Create, review, and update program roadmaps to ensure alignment with the Integrated Program Schedule. 
  • Create, review, and update program deliverables, status reports, and any additional documentation as requested.
  • Write test reports with support from Subject Matter Experts (SME) / team engineers.
  • Support Program Audit tasks: Client requests, policy and documentation, and audit documentation.
  • Experience leading/managing a team, providing guidance, direction, and assistance as applicable. 

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree and fifteen (15) years or more of related experience; Master's degree and thirteen (13) years or more experience; PhD or JD and ten (10) years or more experience. 
  • Proven experience in technical writing, particularly in creating, reviewing, and updating program roadmaps, deliverables, and status reports.
  • Strong understanding of program management principles and experience aligning documentation with Integrated Program Schedules.
  • Experience supporting program audit tasks, including responding to client requests, policy documentation, and audit documentation preparation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a proven ability to manage and lead a team, providing guidance, direction, and assistance as needed.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information into clear and concise documentation.
  • Proficiency in using documentation tools and software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and other relevant tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s) in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification in technical writing (e.g., Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC), Society for Technical Communication (STC)). 
  • Experience working in a technical or engineering environment, preferably within the defense or government sectors.
  • Familiarity with DoD documentation standards and requirements.
  • Experience with project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and data governance principles.
  • Prior experience in a similar role within a large-scale program or organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain templates, style guides, and standardized documentation practices.
  • Experience conducting training sessions for technical writing best practices.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively address issues and challenges in documentation processes. 
  • Participation in professional technical writing organizations and staying current with industry trends and best practices.
