NASA Research and Education Support Services (NRESS) is seeking a Support Scientist to join the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) NRESS team and NASA customers in performing several duties.  Duties vary and will require an applicant to be flexible. 

Job Description:

  • Working with NSPIRES and serving as a technical/scientific editor.
  • Obtaining a thorough knowledge/understanding of NSPIRES, the proposal database that receives and process proposals submitted to NASA Research Announcements, Announcements of Opportunity, and other standalone solicitations
  • Working with NRESS IT to help shape the system to better serve SMD scientists and the science community
  • Reading, editing, and commenting on all SMD solicitations, RFIs, etc., anything being posted on NSPIRES, or requiring an NSPIRES email
  • Serving as Executive Secretary for SMD AO categorization committee and steering committee meetings, taking detailed minutes and provide to NASA management for edits and approval.
  • Must have knowledge of or be a quick learner of SMD policies and procurement rules, as well as knowledge of the SMD science.
  • Work with task leads with questions regarding Grants.gov proposals and how to transcribe those proposals in NSPIRES.  Assist as needed to proposal delivery, review set-up, and decision documentation.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelors and ten (10) years or more of related experience; Masters and eight (8) years or more experience; PhD or JD and five (5) years or more experience.

Desired Education:

  • Master of Science or Ph.D. in a scientific field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, engage, and build consensus with leadership and peer team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and operate with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated effective management of multiple and competing responsibilities.
  • Effective time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience working in Earth and/or space science.
  • Familiarity with interagency efforts in the federal government.
  • Familiarity with the organization and general operation of the Science Mission Directorate.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written, and oral
  • Function well in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, relational databases (NSPIRES), general knowledge of Java Script and Python.

Clearance: 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. 

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
