Microsoft Power BI Developer Senior

SAIC is seeking an experienced Power BI developer to migrate a civilian federal customer’s reporting capabilities from SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Business Objects to Microsoft Power BI Service environment. The ideal candidate will be tasked with leading the transformation of complex reports to Power BI, enhancing the customer’s analytics capabilities, and providing innovative visualization solutions to meet our government clients’ mission-critical needs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, SQL, SSRS, and experience leading development in Microsoft Power BI and related tools. They enjoy collaborating on cross-functional teams to enhance customer reporting. 

Firsthand experience is key in working with these applications: Power BI Service, Power BI Desktop, Power Query, and Power BI Report Builder.

This position can be worked remotely from anywhere within the United States. Must be US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust.  

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the migration process of existing SSRS reports to Power BI, ensuring there is no loss in functionality and that enhancements are made where necessary
  • Develop optimized strategies for migrating legacy reports from SSRS to the Power BI Service
  • Convert SSRS canned and ad hoc reports to Power BI and enhance the paginated reports via Power BI visualizations
  • Develop new Power BI reports and dashboards based on customer requirements, including developing reports with advanced or predictive analytics
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of reports and dashboards
  • Work closely with customers, technicians and developers, and management/leadership members through the project’s completion
  • Develop, implement, and support solutions curated and deployed with Power BI
    • Core functional aspects of these efforts will include: connecting to various data sources, transforming data using Power Query, ensuring the data is modeled properly and creating a highly visual and highly intuitive experience for end users
    • Publishing reports to the Power BI service, managing them through distribution of apps, establishing the needed authentications, and scheduling an automated refresh schedule
  • Educate and train business stakeholders on deployed solutions by establishing knowledge base articles and user guides, hosting live training sessions, and other methods to ensure successful adoption by the business groups
  • Design and possibly conduct training programs to enhance the Power BI competency within the team or organization
  • Formulate and enforce governance policies for the use and deployment of Power BI within the organization
  • Manage and administer Power BI service, set up security policies, monitor usage and performance, and establish best practices
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to junior developers and other team members in best practices
  • Work closely with the customer understanding, documenting, and fulfilling their reporting requirements
  • Actively engage in business stakeholder requirements gathering sessions to understand, interpret and translate requirements, document user stories, and design an effective end-to-end technical solution
  • Execute unit testing, peer testing and facilitate user acceptance testing
  • Assist with customer troubleshooting request or service tickets, as required 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a public trust
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or STEM related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in business intelligence and report development
  • Must have the ability to obtain a certification in Microsoft Power BI (eg. PL-300) within 90 days of start
  • Experience working directly with Power BI, Power BI Report Builder, and SSRS
  • Experience with migration of reports from legacy platforms, with an emphasis on SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Business Objects
  • Direct experience migrating legacy reports to the Power BI Service environment
  • Experience with DAX, Power Query, and advanced analytics features of Power BI
  • Experience supporting Power BI Service, including administration
  • Possess knowledge about Power BI data gateways, advising on best practices and optimizing data flow from on-premises sources to Power BI
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL
  • Proficient experience in leveraging Power BI for predictive analytics, including the development and implementation of predictive models, data mining, and the use of advanced analytics features. The ideal applicant should demonstrate a strong understanding of Power BI's capabilities for forecasting trends and providing actionable insights through data analysis and be adept at creating models that can anticipate future trends or behaviors
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in a sprint delivery model
  • Understanding of database management systems and SQL
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, ETL processes, and data integration
  • Have knowledge about optimizing gateway performance by understanding the impact of query design and how to scale out gateways to handle large datasets and high query loads
  • Experience working with other aspects of Microsoft’s Power Platform and Office 365 suite – Power Apps, Power Automate, Excel, OneNote, Planner, etc.
  • Experience with Paginated reports
  • Ability to interpret and communicate analytical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Strong communicator with demonstrated experience working closely with customers on requirements and execution
  • Proven ability to mentor other developers and train end users in Power BI capabilities
  • Excellence in planning, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and concepts quickly
  • A track record of following through on commitments

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with similar reporting platforms such as Business Objects, Tableau, Cognos, etc.
  • Experience with JIRA, DevOps, or other project tracking tools
  • Possess the certification in Microsoft Power BI (eg. PL-300)
  • Previous experience working with government clients
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as R, Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Familiarity with other aspects of Microsoft Fabric data platform, such as Synapse
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure OpenAI, and/or AI Builder

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
