This fully remote role demands a highly skilled and experienced individual who specializes in cloud database technologies with a strong emphasis on SQL and AWS RDS migrations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in migrating SQL workloads from an on-premises environment to cloud services, with a preference for expertise in AWS and familiarity with Azure. Robust communication skills and the ability to collaborate and manage your tasks assigned, particularly in a remote work environment, are essential.

This is a full-time remote position requiring a quiet, dedicated home office space with reliable high-speed internet access. Standard working hours with additional hours as required to meet project deadlines and support deployments. Regular virtual meetings with IT team members and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead migration projects to move on-premises SQL databases to cloud platforms primarily AWS, with potential engagements in Azure.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of cloud database services, particularly AWS RDS, to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
  • Plan, execute, and manage the migration of databases from EC2 instances to AWS RDS.
  • Manage, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL Server databases in a cloud environment.
  • Implement and maintain database backup, recovery systems, and disaster recovery strategies in the cloud.
  • Provide an administrator-level expertise in the configuration, management, and support of Windows Server 2016 and later versions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define best practices and strategies for cloud database management and migration.
  • Ensure database performance by conducting regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features.
  • Monitor database performance metrics and tune the database environments for optimal efficiency.
  • Document processes, procedures, and configurations related to database management and migration activities.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical support and emergency response as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; an additional four (4) years experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance after hire.
  • 5+ years of experience in database administration with a focus on SQL Server.
  • Proven experience with SQL database migrations to AWS RDS, and familiarity with Azure SQL Database.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options in the cloud.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server 2016 or higher, with administrative level expertise.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills in SQL Server environments.
  • Effective communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with other technical teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote, home-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Database Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certifications.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Azure database services and Azure migration methodologies.
  • Experience with additional database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Oracle.
  • Experience in using automation tools for database tasks.
  • Proactive, self-starter with a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills.
  • Adaptable and open to new technologies and frameworks.
  • Solid team player with strong collaboration skills.
