Description
SAIC is seeking a creative and highly motivated Manager, Strategic Communications to work as a key member of the communications team. This is a newly created position, reporting directly to and working closely with the Senior Vice President, Chief Communications Officer. The Manager will be a superb writer and effective storyteller, responsible for writing speeches, talking points, opinion editorials, social media posts, etc. for the company’s key members of the executive leadership team including the dynamic new CEO, Toni Townes-Whitley.
In addition to content creation at SAIC, the Manager, Strategic Communications will be relied upon as a “utility player” in the communications department, will be agile and a good multitasker, offering strategy and execution as needed on high-priority external and internal communications initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic self-starter who wants to leverage a wide range of skills, experience, and creativity.
Specifics include:
Research and write/create new presentations, speeches and communication pieces that address complex and high-profile issues; advise and consult with the CEO/senior leader on messaging and communications strategies; create in-depth communications on a range of subjects.
Ensure relevant strategy, messaging, branding, and other leadership goals are met and/or accomplished in each task.
Receive speaking requests, gather details from event organizers, prepare and/or present event briefs, and seek out talking points pertaining to relevant topics of interest.
Work with relevant subject matter experts to ensure each speech holistically covers the relevant topic and meets expectations for each engagement.
Produce clear communications through a wide range of styles and formats, including formal speeches, remarks, talking points, articles, opinion editorials, blog entries, and other public or internal comments by the CEO and other senior leaders, as required.
Collaborate with strategic communications and graphic design personnel to ensure that collateral elements that may accompany the speech (e.g., PowerPoints, flash movies, photos, videos, etc.) are prepared and help execute the strategy for the presentation.
Tailor messages in coordination with the overall strategic communications plan and to serve the needs of different audiences, including employees, clients, media, social media, students, industry participants, and community organizations.
Conduct independent research to support and strengthen speeches, presentations, and articles.
Maintain a comprehensive electronic archive of speeches, remarks, and presentations, both as prepared and as delivered.
Conduct preparation sessions with senior leaders for interviews, panels, and/or public Q&A even
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have 18+ years in communications roles in corporate, nonprofit or government settings and regular exposure to executives and Boards. He/she/they will have extensive experience with executive communications and content creation/editing (including, speechwriting, talking points, social media posts, press releases, opinion editorials, employee announcements, annual reports, etc.). He/she/they must possess a depth and breadth of knowledge to ensure written materials are compelling and accurately convey SAIC’s mission and strategy. He/she/they will have expertise with both traditional and digital media and the ability to quickly comprehend new ideas and concepts.
The Manager, Strategic Communications will be a strong relationship-builder who can build and maintain relationships at all levels inside the company, as well as externally. He/she/they will demonstrate strength working as a team player in a collaborative, fast-paced, open-office environment.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. He/she will also have the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
SKILLS
Exceptional oral and written communication skills; with the ability to cater written products for multiple audiences, from Cabinet-level executive leaders to the general public.
Strong leadership, problem identification/resolution skills, flexibility, initiative, and a proven ability to work with Senior Executives.
Self-starter with strong ability to communicate updates to relevant stakeholders; including the ability to work independently on short timelines and with little guidance.
Proficient in communicating broad messages in context of specific writing assignments and individual engagements.
Talented at understanding and writing in the voice of a senior leader, including communication style and preferences in terms of form and content.
Detail-oriented project management skills with high level of judgment and discretion.
Robust project and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Highly familiar and comfortable with event/trip/conference planning and management skills.
Ability to research, identify, leverage, and cite materials relevant to the task at hand.
Highly adept at translating complex, technical and policy initiatives into simple and effective communications.
Must be able to coordinate across multiple organizations, track timelines, and ensure all stakeholders are engaged, as required.
Outstanding interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills with a high level of emotional intelligence
