SAIC is looking for a Corporate Venture Capital Principal to source, cultivate, and manage investments with startups. This individual contributor will work from the San Francisco Bay Area with west coast-based VCs and Startups. Coordination with the SAIC Ventures team will also include key SAIC stakeholders across our Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) organization including Innovation Factories for technology, Sales and Strategic Partnerships teams for Platform & value capture, and P&L owners across our five Business Units. The CVC Principal will develop relationships with investors and startups to scout, define & develop VC investment theses, and drive post-deal value creation with startups and co-investors. By treating our partners’ offerings as if they are our own you will help to accelerate SAIC’s government customers’ use of novel & disruptive technologies across domains of Cloud, Cyber, Digital Transformation, Digital Engineering, AI, and beyond.

The primary role of the CVC Director is to make CVC investments and help drive those companies’ products into SAIC offerings to help drive growth and differentiation. The responsibilities are equal parts VC & startup relationship development & cultivation, investment opportunity development & diligence to drive the thesis for new deals, and post-deal value creation facilitation leveraging the power of our CINO team with portfolio companies.

A successful candidate will work to understand the variety of SAIC’s Defense, Civilian, Federal, and State customers & create relationships with SAIC’s CINO team to differentiate SAIC with startups’ dual-use commercial technologies. This CVC leader must have proven capability to develop relationships with startups, co-investors, and company-wide leaders, rapidly growing their internal and external networks. They must express an affinity for and experience working with technology-driven product & service offerings. Highly qualified candidates will have previous experience working with venture capital backed startups and understand the unique role that strategically aligned Corporate Venture Capital investors have in the VC ecosystem. Ideal candidates will have a mix of business and technical/product experience.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead relationship development with west-coast based VCs and CVCs to develop SAICs ecosystem presence including attending & facilitating meetings & events
  • Support the development of VC ecosystem market maps to guide cultivation based on SAIC strategy artifacts and industry data & analyses
  • Cultivate investment opportunities with co-investors and directly with strategically aligned startups
  • Lead the commercial diligence of startup investments prior to investment decision in collaboration with Innovation Factory teams for technical diligence with a focus on co-investor, existing B2B customer, and potential Government customer feedback
  • Coordinate business diligence with functional support from finance and legal to finalize the investment business case including deal terms and valuation
  • Coordinate with the General Partner and Managing Director of SAIC Ventures to develop investment theses, drive stakeholder conviction commitments, and create materials required to inform a positive investment committee decision
  • Collaborate closely with the CINO team including product sales, strategic partnerships, CTO, and Platform to drive post-investment value capture
  • Act as a trusted advisor to each portfolio company for networking with both SAIC SMEs and the Venture ecosystem for network effect value creation, and follow-on investment syndication & support
  • Build quarterly and ad hoc reports on portfolio companies and the overall portfolio

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six years of experience.
  • Must have a passion for technology-based startups and worked at a VC, CVC, or Startup in a business-focused non-technical capacity, or in another transactional role with a track record of post-seed Series A-D venture deal support.
  • Strong qualitative & quantitative analytical capability with exceptional communication, active listening, critical thinking, collaboration, and presentation capabilities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • If you have an MBA, JD, or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • If you have experience working with or for a government agency or in the military.
  • If you have a strong network in dual-use technology innovation and investment.

Target salary range: $175,001 - $200,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
